Yes, in a way. My two biggest influences (at least early on as a beginner bassist) were/are Donald "Duck" Dunn and Jason Newsted. Though it took a few years I finally did buy a P-Bass ('62 reissue, NO WAY I could afford a real '62) and a Sadowsky (though I could have technically gotten away with buying an Alembic or Spector to qualify). I didn't expressly buy them because Duck and Jason played them but they made me aware of those basses and the sounds suit me just fine.

Not sure who even uses my amps previously/currently (Aguilar DB659/728/GS410 or Ampeg Heritage SVT/8x10 rig). They just sounded good to me.

No, I've had two signature models, and two "inspired" by models (Kingston and Epi Viola), and borrowed a buds Hofner back in the day. While all the basses were likable, I didn't bond with any of them, as they still sound like me playing... My playing lends itself to a certain kind of bass... which is not what my inspirations play.

Yes, Dave ellefson played a BC Rich mockingbird way back, I loved his tone and once I tried an older handmade Rich I was hooked, I now own 3...

Same with Rickenbacker's(saving up to buy my old one back), I wanted that Geddy Lee/Roger glover tone and loved the feel of them!!

When I was a beginner 20 years ago I had an Ibanez because many of my heroes played them, my love for Ibanez wore off though...I've owned the standard Fender basses as well, still dig em', but not my favorite by any stretch

I had a few favorites play Precisions and Ampeg, sure. Had plenty of favorites that didn't, though. And when it came time to get a serious bass, I was fortunate that we had a big music store in Orlando that carried the latest and greatest of 1976, including stuff like Alembic, Ric, Travis Bean, and quite a few other top brands of the day, and I played them all and went home with a Precision because it was what I liked the best. A year and a half later, I did the same with amps and ended up buying an Ampeg because I liked it the best. I like to see what everyone is using and keep up with new developments, and I might have gotten introduced to the gear I use by my heroes, but my heroes aren't playing my gigs so I buy what I think works best for me.

I did and I still own the P bass I bought 46 years ago, but things move on.

Put me down as a card carrying John McVie/Duck Dunn style player, with a little of every bassist who ever played Soul/R&B/Blues in the last 60 years.

I've played 5 string basses for over 20 years and I found that my style easily upgraded to the extra string.

I usually play Jazz basses (fretted and fretless), and some of my favorites play J basses too (Jaco Pastorius, Jerry Jemmott). Others George Porter jr, James Jamerson (P basses) don't, not to mention John Entwistle or Steve Swallow.
Therefore I think that Jaco was inspired by me when switching to fretless J, but he didn't get to find a black one like mine.
