So then.... "A Town Called Mercy"!

-----MILD SPOILERS-----

I quite liked them having two antagonists (The Gunslinger and Kahler Jex), and not letting you figure out entirely who was the villain and who was the victim.

The Gunslinger I thought was an excellent - and memorable - character, but Kahler Jex was too inconsistent of a character to be that great.

Overall, a good, but not great episode.

I missed the first episode of the new season but I did watch dino spaceship and the town called mercy. Was dino/spaceship filmed differently? I watched it late last night after a hard party and it just looked different...somehow. Anyone else notice that or was it just me?

Did you notice when the Doctor was riding Susie, the road was blurred to cover up tire tracks?

It almost seems Karen and Arthur are just going through the motions.

There's a sonic screwdriver remote control now, which is pretty cool - it's gesture-based.

A Town Called Mercy was pretty good - nice to see Ben Browder in Doctor Who, and also Garrick Hagon (the undertaker who kept taking The Doctor's measurements), AKA Biggs Darklighter from Star Wars. The Doctor's temper is definitely going to be a big deal this year - seeing him pointing a gun at Kahler Jex was a bit scary.

Great moment. I love the recurring "I speak Baby/I speak Horse" thing they have going on.

Stormaggedon and Susan were both great characters!

Watched episodes 2 and 3 from the new season last night my son asked if we could watch it and eat dinner... i obliged.

the teaser where pond and rory were talking about choosing normal life or dr who life... foreshadowing the end of their companionship...

i thought the coolest part was Rory's dad starting to travel after being inadvertantly taken on the tardis was cool...

The Doctor didn't seem to like the fact that rory and pond wanted to go home

It definitely had a very cool, cinematic look.

A Town Called Mercy was filmed on location in Italy.

It was Almeria, Spain - various classic "spaghetti westerns" were filmed there, such as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and For A Few Dollars More. The Italian (hence spaghetti) connection is that most of those films were made by Italians (probably, most famously, director Sergio Leone and composer Ennio Morricone).

I mostly agree with the ranking, I'm kind of sick of the weeping angels as baddies, they are kind of lame, but I would put "a town called mercy" over "the power of three"...

I still don't understand how they can get away with calling 5 measly episodes a "season" or "series"...

It's a mid-season break. Christmas Special, where we will find out how he hooks up with Clara (the girl from Asylum...), then a further 8 episodes in the new year.

As for this last episode...well it wasn't the blubfest I was expecting, but having said that I won't miss Rory or Amy.

Also, I think they have really missed a trick not giving Rory's dad (Mark Williams) an extended role. He exuded more charisma in one episode than Rory managed in all his series screen time.

I am a little tired of so much happening in one episode. Doesn't it feel like a couple of these could've been two parters, at least? Especially The Power of Three. They sure resolved THAT problem in a hurry!

I watch it. Though I do have to say that I'm no longer digging Matt Smith as the Doctor. I'm actually missing David Tennant's interpretation.... best Doc since Tom Baker.

So David Tennant leaves too... They should have made an exception, I lost the will to watch the Doctor.

Also, I think they have really missed a trick not giving Rory's dad (Mark Williams) an extended role. He exuded more charisma in one episode than Rory managed in all his series screen time.

This is something interesting, just released today. They wrote a special scene showing what happens to Rory's dad after the events of "The Angels Take Manhattan".

Unfortunately, they didn't film it (why, I'm not sure), but they did animate it enough that we can get the general idea.

It's titled "P.S."
