I've been collecting Fenders for a few decades, and I got so sick of them discontinuing all of their awesome stuff, or over pricing it, or only making it in black, white, or sunburst... And if they weren't doing that, then they were taking a $200 Squire, writing Dee Dee Ramone on it, and then selling it for $750.
Were having this same "value" discussion in another thread about Markbass. It's not always about value... Sometimes you just get sick of being screwed or ignored by a company that you're loyal to. Then you move on, and that's how you finally get them to listen.
I got tired of searching for a Steve Harris bass, only to find them ridiculously over priced, so I just started having G&L build them for me at half the price of Fender, and made in America to my EXACT specs. It was even cheaper than Warmouth I think.
If this is about a bass that you love, then snatch it! If it's about value, then this thread should've been over 2 days ago.

All I wanted was a P with a J neck, and it seems that at the moment fender just doesn't make that. Plus I wanted something in charcoal frost, which I don't think fender offers of any non custom shop bass right now. So two birds, one stone

I've spent my life searching for a Precision Bass with a Precision Bass neck!!! Ever since that SOB Steve Vai started shredding on Ibanez guitars, the media has been pushing, pushing, pushing!!! Necks must be small, thin, light, slick, fast!!! No if's and's, or buts! As a result, Fender, G&L, and Lakland have all been shrinking necks to say the least, and in many cases, outright tossing the P neck for a J.
The reason why I finally switched to G&L is because they allow me to put any neck on any bass, so I finally have my gigantic 1.75 nut with baseball-bat-profile back. That being said, I get super cramped up when playing on tiny necks... and as a punk bassist... I'm singing and playing 45, 2 minute songs at light speed... So I don't want to cramp up... And for the record, why any musician covered in sweat would want a slick, smooth neck is also a mystery to me!
My point being, we all like what we like, but it's funny to hear you say that you can't find J profiles, because I can't P ones!
I'll trade you J necks for P's any day bro!!! We'll can start the foreign exchange program!
"Value" is determined by supply and demand. The specific bass in your post is worth whatever the seller is willing to sell it for combined with what some buyer will pay. That's the only rule. You can get a decent estimate of what you should pay vs other similar instruments which have sold recently by searching TB classifieds, and on Reverb and eBay.
Regarding the irreversible battery mod, such a modification on an early Fender would definitely cause its market value to be reduced. But, that is because the buyers include collectors who are looking for original manufacturing as part of the value proposition. A Korean produced Lakland is unlikely to include a significant collector segment that values originality more than function. So, in general, as long as the battery box addition was professionally done, without otherwise damaging the instrument, that particular instrument should be worth pretty much what similar unmodified instruments would be worth on the used market. Of course, that could change if some teen icon bass player started playing that model causing players and collectors to take an interest in original unmodified versions. You have to calculate that probability for yourself.
Reversible modifications are my vast preference. But, one has to be realistic in weighing the various risk/reward aspects.
And, one other thing is that the addition of a battery box usually indicates that an aftermarket preamp is part of the deal. The rule there is that you don't have to pay for that preamp; which can work in the buyer's favor, IF an active bass is desired.
