Does anyone have "the one", yet you keep searching?

Let me qualify "the one" by defining it as a bass that meets your needs and preferences so well, that finding another that fits you as well is very statistically improbable.

So who has this instrument.....loves it to pieces....yet still snoops around for something new?

If you're a "need a bag of golf clubs" person, i.e. different tools for different situations, clearly this won't apply to you. But if you're a hobbyist that is really happiest playing said "one", I'd be interested to know whether you still search.

EDIT: If you have a "one", then please tell us what it is! :)
Searching further would be futile.

My one...Roscoe Century Standard 5 Plus. Swamp ash, Koa top, BEM board, Barts.

I still look from time to time, but I will never sell this one. Anything else would be an addition, but I don't anticipate anything new in the near future.

Yep, My "one" is a Moonstone Exploder (and a LOWEND T6, a Warick Streamer and Dingwall ABX6) yet for some dumb reason i am always looking. It's like being in a relationship with"the one" but you still can't help appreciating another beautiful form that happens to cross your path..

No such thing. Like the Unicorn or Holy Grail.

Turns out my "the one" is a black maple P bass. I didn't really love other P basses I had prior to it because of their necks, so I had Fender build me one with a J profile in 2014. Interestingly when I first got it, I wasn't that impressed but after 5 years of breaking it in, it's pretty nice. Nothing special. That's one of the things I like about it.

I've bought other basses since because they sound and look different.

This is the one. A tribute G&L L2000. It's so much so the one that I don't even want to trade it in for a USA model.

It's perfect for me, my bandmates love the sound, and yet I still keep searching. However, I don't think that I'll be buying anything anytime soon. My next two will have bodies built by hand by me. I'll probably still buy the necks, because necks scare me.

My “the one” ended up being a Lakland Skyline 55-64 (5 string P). I started playing back in the 70s, so most of my GAS as a grown up went into a big arsenal of 4 stringers. All were great - sort of that golf club bag you referred to. However, this was impractical for playing anywhere other than at home.

Also, most of the singers I play with are also older and need to down tune. I don’t like to do this, so I had to get a 5er. I originally got a Dingwall, which was excellent in every way. The downside however was that it looked different and everyone wanted to mess with it. It was also expensive and made me nervous to have out.

I got the Lakland originally as a back up, but it soon became my #1 - inexpensive, ordinary looking, easy to fit into the mix. At some point I got rid of everything else.

Yes, I have found "the one", it is an EBMM Sterling 4HH. Yes, I keep looking for something, mostly as a backup, and it is very hard to find anything that compares (for my personal preference). The neck just feels right, the tone is incredible, it has been very reliable, and it looks incredible.

Yeah I'm in the "need a bag of golf clubs" club! If I had force myself to make do with one "club" I could still play but it wouldn't be as good. Different "strokes" for different needs of course. :)
