Does anyone make a B15 in a pedal format?

I’ll get to that, just been playing with the P-15 for the better part of the day ;)

....go on...

We’re waiting...

& how’s that sounding ??

Checked out that UAD B-15 plug-in. It’s pretty awesome. Between that and their great sounding SVT & GK plug-ins I’m starting to wish they made a live DSP Box one could use stand alone ...
And...…….don't keep us waiting.....loo

I love mine.

Damn ya'll, I was sleeping!

The P-15 is great: definitely not the complete B15 sound by itself (no surprise, considering it has neither a speaker nor power section), but much closer than anything I'd tried so far.

Also interesting how different it sounds from the REDDI, considering both are supposed to be B15 preamps: you can also drive it much harder.

I'm thinking that with the OCS and a comp I'll get what I'm after, so I'm looking at how best to rearrange my pedalboard to accommodate.

The shootout with the V-15, as well as the REDDI and Monique (why not, eh?) still looms...

Here’s a B-stock Kemper lunchbox for $1600... sounds cheaper than a P15, a V15, sansamp,etc combined.

I won't be keeping all the tube pres, so the total cost for what I'm after will be $800 or less, even if I end up chaining three pedals (or two pedals and a tube box) to get it. Appreciate the heads up though

The REDDI is advertised as "Inspired by the glorious sound of the Ampeg B-15 tube bass amp" while the P-15 is the actual preamp section of a B-15 with the proper tube. I think the relationship with the B-15 is always a bit overblown when it comes to the REDDI.

Makes sense: the P-15 sounds much more like a B15 than the REDDI does, though the REDDI is excellent in it's own right.

The range of gain saturation it has compared to the P-15 is very narrow though.

Just curious, why no mention of the Noble? Not the B-15 sound?

To clarify, I don’t have much experience with the Noble or the B-15, but a close friend has the Noble and I know that having only a bass and treble circuit and two tubes drive pretty well. It’s also the go-to pre for a lot of guys wanting the tube sound.

Again, more of an honest question as to why it hasn’t been mentioned.

The Noble is more similar to the Monique than it is a B15 as far as I'm aware: big, 3D tones but much more on the clean side of things.

The P-15 is actually dirty through much of it's range from my experience with it so far, as were the two B15's I played through.

I have a Noble and love it, but it's mostly a fairly clean tube preamp. I think Matt is looking for higher levels of dirt than the Noble is really meant for.

Yep.

Here's a quick tone sample of the P-15 getting pushed a bit: Bass around 11 o'clock, Treble around noon, Volume around 11 o'clock.

Just ran it into the Q/Strip for HPF & LPF filtering and added a touch of limiting in post

I first mentioned the SansAmp original in this thread. My typical settings are:

dip switches:
mid boost 1: off
mid boost 2: on
low drive: on
clean amp: on
bright switch: off
vintage tubes: on
speaker edge: off
close miking: on

side toggle switch on "bass"
presence drive and amplifier drive knobs both about 11:00
output and high knobs both about 12:00

All can be varied to taste, but most important to getting a bass sound seem to be the low drive and clean amp dip switches and the the side toggle (to be in the positions mentioned above). Some of the dip switches have a minimal effect on the overall tone. The presence drive and amplifier drive controls are kind of crucial in terms of how clean you want the signal to be. I generally go for just the slightest bit of perceptible overdrive, but that can be adjusted to taste and according to the output of your bass.

I also might adjust a bit depending on whether I'm using the pedal for recording or playing live. Typically the difference would be that I would go a bit cleaner with the presence and amplifier drive controls when recording (and maybe increase the output control to compensate).

I received a mix to evaluate for a buddy.
The guitar sounded great sounded like a tube Fender; It was this early Sansamp.
Does anyone know if the new model is idnetical to the original?

Nice playing although that tone was not what I associate a B-15 with.
You're settings sounds great for the track, but I equate the B-15 with warm, more bottom and less top end.
Just goes to show, we all hear it differently.

Let me expand: I'm not looking for a REDDI. It's great at what it does, but not what I'm after, and I already own one.

I recently tracked in a studio with an actual B15 for the first time, and after picking my jaw up off the floor and taking myself home found that the UA plugin is a fairly close amalgam.

Unfortunately, using either of these things live is a non-starter.

What I'm hoping to find is something in pedal format that will allow me to avoid the cost and bulk of purchasing a Kemper and profiling a B15 for my touring work next year.

I currently have some REALLY excellent pedals (X7, AOU, DP3X, BDDI, Q/Strip, OCSD, and a whole mess of dirt and fuzz boxes) but as of yet everything has fallen short of the mark I'm looking for.

I'm interested in anything under $1k that offers the same rich midrange, musical overdrive/distortion and even punch across the entire fretboard as a B15.

There's a $20 in it for the chap who points me in the right direction

GO!
Tonally, a big boost 400-800HZ and cut everything above 3k will work, but tube overdrive is harder to emulate. Distortion is not the same. Dark glass pedal?

This thread inspired me. Just fired up the rig and played P-Bass > Triopticon > Power Stage > P-15. Then switched the Powerstage to the Archetype 2 knob Valve Boost. Thos are basically perfect bass tones.
