Does anyone remember the old TalkBass?

Miss the old TB b/c the design was vintage which feels insane for me to say, I feel the new one is a bit cut and paste similar to most forums especially car forums I browse.

BUT! I have to say I gotten so use to it, and I feel the new design is a bit more inviting to me.

If traffic is slowing down, it’s highly unlikely that it’s because of the update to a modern standard.

All forums have declined and/or died over the last few years. This whole model is outdated by more than a decade and frankly, we should all be celebrating the fact that we as a community have managed to keep Talkbass alive and thriving.

Think about every forum that you signed up on between 2006-2016… how many are still packed with folks talking excitedly about stuff and making new threads constantly? Diystompboxes? Offsetguitars? Ilovefuzz? TGP? HARMONY CENTRAL?!

It seems to me that the loudest complaints about the changes come from those members who mostly use TB as a fee-free Reverb alternative. And that’s fine, I guess. But without the actual community portion, the classifieds aren’t really worth anything.

So I say cheers to us for keeping this place alive and a two finger salute to the folks who pushed off because they can’t figure out how to deal with a small change that really doesn’t affect their life in any truly meaningful way.

I 💙 Talkbass

Good point. I remember posting on The Dudepit, The Fender Discussion Page and the official Fender fourm, and they are all gone now.

Never mind the TB format...how's your Wrangler? (°|||||||°)

Change is inevitable.

I've been a member since 2013, and really have only one issue. Opening the site and moving from page to page is a lot slower now, for me at least. When I open the site, it takes around a minute (by my desk clock) to become usable, sometimes even longer. Once it's up and running, there's also a slight delay browsing, but not as long. This puzzles me a little, because Talkbass is the only site I go to that does this. I have membership in other forums, plus lots of searching and browsing, and it's only here that the phemonenon occurs. I'll admit that I don't visit here as much as I used to; sometimes I don't want to bother waiting. My computer is a 6 year old HP laptop, and is fine everywhere else.

It's been a while since the TB overhaul. There were a lot of complaints and people who said they were leaving. It seems certain folks (myself included) post less than they used to. But now that I think about it, I still remember the opening page, but that's about it. I've gotten used to the new TB and find it very easy to navigate.

Curious if any fellow TBers are still salty about the transition. Or have most settled in?

I'm used to the new one, it's ok, but I still prefer the previous UI.

I actually much prefer the new format, including the new classifieds, both of which I find easier to use and navigate. Obviously, I am in the minority.

I notice less listings on the classifieds and that the stuff there moves slower. Some of my favorite threads, like the short scale club, dont seem to have as many postings either.

Didn't Shakespeare write a play about this?

Much Ado about nothing?

Talkbass is fine the way it is, and in my opinion, better than it was.

When I first read the thread title, I thought they were talking about Talkbass 20 years ago when I joined.

Few of you here, now never knew of the almost daily chaos at TB caused by a few, well-educated, well-spoken members who had to make their points even if it meant insulting other members.

One member was a master at it.

Then, there were the political and gun control arguments.

Oy!

I'm so glad those days are long gone.

Mike
