Due to the prevalence of four finishes, I tend to avoid black, red, white, and natural. A special thank you to Fender and Gibson for the saturation.
That said, because aesthetics are important in the bands I play in, I will go with white. It is great under stage lighting.
Beyond that, I am much more attracted to rare and colorful finishes, and sparkle finishes (I have around five sparkles, three finished by the one and only Marty Bell). My basses and guitars are there for both function and fashion. If I can't find a great bass in a color that intrigues me and helps entertain my audiences, I'll have it refinished.
