Does guitar center just not care?

Today I went to guitar center and I saw the worst setup bass I ever saw in my 31 years on this planet. How could they even think that a guitar this terribly setup would make someone feel like this was the one they wanted to buy. I have seen bow and arrows set up better than this.

Guitar Center not caring once got me a brand new German Warwick Streamer Pro M for $499. It needed a battery, a set up, and the knob screws needed to be tightened.

I'm happy they don't care .

Yeah, I've never seen them care, and the one by me tends to be a decent store. I bought a Streamer used from the GC website in supposedly great condition. I picked it up to discover it had a bad refinish with deep sanding scratches, old finish stuck in hard to sand spots, an unoriginal preamp which had a terrible hum, and the whole thing felt generally sticky...

...I returned it with no problem and they relisted it with the same crap picture (only 1 pic), same price, and same "great condition" description as well as doing nothing to address the electronic issue.

So, yeah... GC don't give a &%#@

Today I got a great trade price, massive discount, and even set the new bass up to my liking for a test drive (free of charge)
My GC does awesome

When you are a guitar department manager, and your store manager tells you to unbox and hang 50 guitars before lunch, you really do not have enough time to do setups. I'm not taking up for them, I'm just saying this is how GC works. I know, because I worked there about 10 years ago. The problem is management, not the poor minimum wage workers.
GC is the Walmart of guitars.

And that's also what helps keep the small mom & pop shops in business. (those that are still left that is). At least to me, service is everything.

So is Percy Jones' basses, from the one example I played many years ago. He and I had a nice discussion about this regarding hand pain. He told me it was worth it as that's what he needed to do, action-wise, to get his sound.

GC Online cared enough to have this bass in stock.
I bought it used for $500.00 November last year.
So I have no quarrels with GC.

And the action wasn't too shabby!

So long as they're making plenty of money, probably not. Oh, wait...

My guess is that GC must make sure that the action is high enough that the strings don't choke on the frets. Playability isn't something they worry too much about, especially on basses. We're a very small part of their business - partly just because of how few of us there are to start with, and partly because the smart ones among us go elsewhere.
