Don't understand this 'suggestion' from the Ampeg website:

Marketing people are paid well so that when you read their words, It tells you everything you want to tell yourself about a product you may not know much about but you've told yourself all the right things about the product because you've just read all the feel good buzz words

A lot of people don't know this but Elvis liked to play bass. There are studio shots of him playing. Some info here: http://www.scottymoore.net/56PBass.html. He apparently played a lot of instruments and was a good musician.

It was a LOT of money for a P-bass back then. Gee, poor Elvis, I guess nobody would give the guy a break ;)!

F150, where Ford takes a 2WD regular cab with the base V6 truck rated at 23mpg by the EPA and puts a picture of a crew cab 4x4 with the top of the line EcoBoost (21 mpg) and can get away with it because in small print the EPA lists and "expected range" for MPG and the very top most of that was 28. And then they wonder why they get investigated for poor mileage.

Marketing moves units.
 
I would simply say that a well informed consumer is the worst nightmare for most marketing departments. I don't currently have any Ampeg gear in my line-up and haven't for while (so no dog in the fight), but I believe that the engineers at Ampeg are as committed to delivering great sound, quality and value for the company's customers as the engineers at any other name brand concern.

As for the decisions made by the marketing folks, I'm guessing the engineers at Ampeg cringe as often as they do in many other big corporate operations. In general, I think advertising is known to be more of a creative writing product that reflects artistic license - and it's certainly a good way to approach that kind of information IME. The spec sheet is where you typically go to get the more scientifically based insights, and even then the variation in test techniques and lack of established industry standards for MI amps/cabs still leaves room for interpretation in some areas.

That only a 15 can give you a certain sound. From the opening line from this marketing garbage
"When only the fat, warm sound of a 15” speaker will get the job done," I'm guessing by fat they been lots of low bass and while some designs with 15s may be designed to go lower then a 4x10 that doesn't go that low, like a sealed 4x10. It's extremely easy to make a ported 4x10 go lower then a 1x15.
And I'm guessing by warm the mean not having much in the higher register. Well that's easy, remove the tweeter!
 
The mixed cab debate is endless. I have read many accounts of people that use or have used mixed cabs and loved it. Many, not a few.
Always, the advice is "Do what sounds good to you".
It is said that they are listening with their eyes, not their ears. We are very visually influenced. No doubt.
It is also Ampeg bashing. My first 810 cab was the Ampeg 810e. I will always like Ampeg after that experience.

Not only incomplete yet marketing stupid if furthermore referenced wrong.

Those folks who claim frequently phase issues with mixed cabs don't understand science not a bit. I'm pretty sure they would not argue the way they do if they would know one ore two things about science.
Within the cab family of ported MI cabs some phase deviation is to small just to declare bad sound.

Similar phase deviations even may happens with parallel effect loops. For example if the wet signal is EQ'd which besides some phase anomaly versus dry signal even may cause group delay issues.
Both signals wet and dry are mixed and even the mixing police is happy so far. Although there might happen similar phase issues like it happens with mixed cabs. In this case a big benefit is the mixing police does not know anything about these anomalies.
Another example mixing of DI and mic signal at FOH. Even with everything in phase the mic will cause some phase anomalies. Not sure if anyone of the phase police will ever recognize these phase anomalies.

While lots of folks try to justify bad sound with phase anomalies but it's NOT convenient to explain bad experience with mixed rigs with phase.
However there is indeed an anomaly that may interfere sound. Group Delay.
As 'science' folks know nothing about Group Delay they try to explain with phase. May be Group Delay exceeds imagination of 'science' folks way to much thus they try to explain wrongly with phase.

All told, those discussions are pretty good example how incomplete knowledge yet is referenced wrong.
A big success 'science' folks aim in this field is they frequently implement lots of incomplete but also completely wrong knowledge to others.

@ThisBass I am pretty sure when you confine it to timings of what comes from a woofer the phase response shifts and group delays are the same.

Relative phase shift tells nothing but relative phase of two systems at singular frequency point.
Group Delay tells something about the way how a bandwith is transfered.

A singular frquency point on it's own can't transfere any information.
While a bandwidth consideration for audio program material is the consideration on transfered (audio) information. That's a big difference 'science' folks do hard to understand.

As we as musicians don't play singular sine waves the group delay is more important to consider a distinct bandwidth.
On it's own group delay on a mono system does not matter to much but in stereo it does matter if left and right channel don't match.
Similar issues may happen if different bass cabs show noticeable deviations.


Sometimes there is no need to try to explain with science stuff.
If a EVM15L driver was mixed with a Hartke 410 aluminium drivers it's predictable the characterful voicing of the EVM 15L will strongly compete with linear sound of the 10" aluminium drivers.
Two totally different voicings that will not match and very likely refuse to be EQ'd to personal taste.

I like your post, but it appears to contradict the theory that information cannot be destroyed. Hawking said that it could, but later relented when presented with mathematical proof.

Part of that theory implies that any information that cannot be destroyed can be transferred.

If any,
a steady sine wave can't transport any information in the sense of human communication, which is either speach or music.
Then there is all kinds of daily noise which actually differs from speach and music.
Either way, independent of what kind of specrum shall be transfered,
a sine wave keeps no information in the sense of science of telecommunications and also keeps no information in the sense of science of information and systems theory.

There is an impressing phenomenon that happens with RF transfere of information.
The speed of phase of carrier frequency is bigger than the speed of the information which is the NF bandwiidth modulated to the carrier.
While the carrier itself carries no information but the modulating signal which is the NF bandwidth does.
In rough words the runtime of phase of the carrier is bigger than runtime of 'phase' of the information.
That's way in RF science and many otther disciplines there is clear differentiation of phase delay versus group delay.
