This thread needs more clips. I've been messing with my pedals tonight and found a few more new sounds, I will record some soon!

Dude, this thread needs to check the effects wiki, bassfuzz.com, etc. One thing that obviously is a pandora's box is posting clips of two pedals together, especially the populat ones ie bass big muff and boss oc2 for example. The hard part is knowing how two pedals will sound together.

Yup. AFAIK, and this is going on pictures of them in studio as well as seeing them live last October, the DS-1 (with all the controls, tone, gain, and level, cranked hard to the right) into some kind of Marshall Plexi clone is what he uses to get that "crackling electricity/the sky just opened up inside your skull" distortion sound he's famous for.

I would assume that's the setup on tour because he's using rented gear, as the Matamp/Electric heads he's using in the studio & on the west coast have a ridiculous amount of gain on tap, and the DOD 250 (the yellow distortion) is a wonderful pedal for opening up tube amps and making them roar.

Well, I play in a hardcore band that has a lot of doom and heavy instrumental sections in our songs, and I use a Little Big Muff, Boss FZ-2, and a DS-1. I want a Dark Boost, and an Attack Goat and Supercollider, but honestly everything about fuzz on bass in any of these genres is more dependent on individual taste and the general tone your band goes for, not some preset notion of the "right" fuzz.

The problem is the Wiki doesn't get updated nearly enough (I know I'm guilty myself of not adding all my clips in there, I must get on it), and there's not enough clips out there to get a good impression of these pedals in a doom setting.

I just wanna hear what some of you guys are managing to produce with what you have, especially with interesting combinations of basses/pedals/amps. I got a great doom tone last night through a mere headphone amp by running a Yamaha BB415 -> BB Preamp -> Supercollider Beast -> VT Bass. I'll record it tonight and post it up...

Am I really the first to mention the Prescription Depth Charge in this thread? Because I've been through a lot of fuzz and OD pedals, but the Depth Charge was basically stoner/doom in a box for me. It can be a little trebly with some setups, but it's perfect with mine. Still want to try some other Brassmaster variants (Assmaster, etc.) against it, but it's a keeper for sure.

For doom really anything that keeps you lows will work, you just have to pick the type/color of fuzz you want. I big, loud amp is really more important in the end.

DAM Ezekiel if you can find/afford one
Colorsound Jumbo Tonebender -- the B&M fuzz. Like a muff, but with some clean signal bleedthrough so no low end loss.

I love the BlueBeard for a doom sound. Hard to find but once you do, they are worth the wait.

Easier to find and cheaper as well. Or change out the knobs and LED on a regular kit and no one will know (unless they open it up).

I tried on out at a shop awhile ago and liked it but this was during my early days of effects. I remember liking it a lot but was turned off by the price.

it's very particular, super-saturated and compressed as heck, and thus not suited to every purpose. it can be harsh, and the V1 that I have could probably be improved by replacing the sustain and tone pots for an improved curve - too bad i haven't been able to get Fran to respond about having it upgraded or modding it to V2 specs myself...

It doesn't have a huge range of settings that i like - with the tone knob above 10o'clock it basically sounds like a swarm of bees - harsher even. But even this sounds good (moreso through my all-tube rig than my SS).

It basically does one thing, which is something no other bass fuzz does IMO, and it does it superbly. But it wouldn't work as most folks' one and only dirtbox, so the original retail price was pretty scary!

i played in a grindcore band and currently starting a doom/sludge project.

used a bunch of other effects which include blending in a Mastrotron w/ polish love and than blend that with dry, rigged than into a Line M9.

at home is just a Eden Nemesis 400watts into 4x10. at the practice studio is a hartke LH1000 into a 1x15 and 4x10, recording is Avalon U5 and bi-amping it with a ampeg SVT.
