Down the rabbit hole again - Project 4350

Yeah, super clean. Did you make a routing template for that @JIO?

Funny story. I made a CNC clone of the original (SuperB) body (the gilded one) and have had a few bodies made since using that original template. As much as you initially crunch numbers/measurements for a build - the bridge of the original needed to go back (toward the butt) by a slight bit. So I actually do have a file but it's still not accurate placement for correct intonation. (working through a third-party can be frustrating) I've had to alter the routes a slight bit (not much) so it all intones correctly. It isn't easy - but done correctly it works very well.

I count my time working on projects like this exactly as I count it for my job. $300 per day. That's what it costs me to spend a day on my project right now, as I am working 7 days a week. Ok, I'm the boss so yes I can take a day off if I really want to, but, that's $300 I'm out of pocket because I didn't rock up to my paid work. Soon, this little project becomes **very** expensive. There's also the credibility cost to consider. I can only call a customer so many times with lame excuses

My main problem is customers. After COVID, everybody wants to remodel, and everybody has set the magic date of Christmas for completion. So, I am currently juggling two pretty major remodels with contracted work for two larger companies on commercial fire door installs and rectifications and those guys think one hour's notice is all I need to re-plan my whole day. Far from leaving me with potential days off, I'm really in a position where an extra day per week would be handy.

I don't know who Gregorian is (I had initially thought he was a member of Kraftwerk) but he's the guy responsible for the calendar so, Gregorian, if you're listening...

It's a nice problem to have, I suppose, but I've never been anywhere near this busy before and turning work away is pure anathema to me. As somebody on the jobsite said to me just recently, it's bittersweet. A little like lemon meringue (name that song by a tragically underrated artist for 1,000,000 internet boss points).

Now, also bear in mind that by the time I get home in my beat up Nissan truck, which makes the prop vehicles from Mad Max look like over pampered showroom queens, the last thing I want to deal with is lumber of ANY species. I don't care how flamed or quilted it is.

So yes, although it's nice to be able to say, I charge my time at a zero rate, it's also important to keep in mind that that's a genuine luxury. If you're in that position, great, and I really mean that. I envy you. I'm not in that position now, and so this hobby can become insanely expensive if I were to allow it. This is why you must brace yourself for a few more weeks of almost imperceptible progress on whatever I'm doing, and then, soon as I do actually have some time, total blitzkrieg.

I'm not complaining about my situation. It would be selfish and ungrateful to do so. I think I'm very lucky to be able to make a good living at something I enjoy, I genuinely value and appreciate every single thing I have, and how many other jobs are there where you can take your dog to work. Yeah ok, police K-9 handler, fine. I mean apart from that. Yes, ok, person at the back, if I were visually impaired, well done. Apart from that too. Tough crowd, jeez.

So really I expect to do very little hands on work with this until a couple days after Christmas day, but in the meantime I will be doing a lot of over thinking, theorizing, planning, and enthusiastically helping to further derail my own thread to the point of total anarchy. It's all about the atmosphere. It's supposed to be fun.

Hey listen I hope everybody is having a really good day. I love in a, you know, totally non dating way.

Pope Gregory the thirteenth, after whom the Gregorian calendar was named.

Better than my week in some ways, worse in others. Cleared 8 Work Orders on Tuesday & Wednesday. Could have cleared one of them Monday but the paperwork didn't get to me until 10:00 at night...

7 of the 8 were... Fix things not broken, connect things to a phone line that hasn't been repaired (phone company, not me) in 3 months.

I do not bring my cats to work. And it seems entirely plausible that one of the Kraftwerk guys is 519 (or more) years old, and may have faked his death a few times in that span.

I mean, you know, I'm not saying that Kraftwerk held the fabric of society together but (gestures at EVERYTHING).

@ChickWithaRic I'm glad to hear that you're still enjoying your work under difficult circumstances. That's a valuable thing. Myself, I enjoy every day at work. (I'm a chauffeur for handicapped people.) However, I work about 30 hours per week, and I have an affliction that prevents me from doing more than that. So that leaves me plenty of time to build basses or do other things of my choosing, and I value that time. Your story has made me appreciate this once again.

We'll just stick around to see what happens here.

Take care. Stay safe.
