DR dropped by to share vids

The whole charm of this thread was the inflammatory arrogance with which it was originally created. :atoz:

Oh, how funny. I wasn't going to bother posting because I thought Red had lost some of that arrogance. Apparently not.

Humility is a good thing to have, there is always going to be somebody out there a little quicker on the draw than you are.

I haven't read all the posts or watched all of the vids, but there is some great stuff out there, with the notable exception of the OP's vids. They aren't all horrible, but I didn't get all the way through any of them. Sorry Red, but you ain't walkin' the walk. I can't see this getting anybody from another band fired.

You HAD to know that every bass player here, meaning everyone, was going to go straight for Sara Lee's KILLER KILLER KILLER KILLER of a line on Love Shack, and see how you handled it.

You didn't.

+1. The Love Shack bass line is absolutely essential to the groove. We bassists noticed the lack thereof right away and I'd wager alot of non-musicians would know that something isn't quite right (even if they can't put their finger on it). The song lacks momentum.

Yep. It's been a while since I played that one, so I just a/b'd both versions. TLF really lacked the bounce that makes that one a dance favorite. The band didn't even accent the "knocks on the door". I must say I would never to be able to sing and attempt that bass line at the same time though.

Most every cover band interprets the songs with some artistic license. I know mine does.

Not my favorite interpretation.:hiding:

That interpretation is worth 12 points on your artistic license, and will get it suspended for 6 months in some states in the union... :D

Here's my contribution. We had a sub guitar player, now our permanent, and was one of the first times we played the song out, not an easy song, and the singer, normally excellent, had some problems with vocal line being too high at the end... But at least I'm not crowing about you guys aren't fit to eat my socks or anything...

That's just it. There are players of all levels here and yet the same guy keeps trying to tell us how superior he is and that we should be in awe of him. There are some really good players putting out some very cool stuff, but you don't see them being self indulgent jerks. (you listening DR?)

I'm just happy my band likes what I do and we stay busy, even if I am only a mediocre player at best. Do what you do and enjoy the ride.
