DR Strings Club?

TR plays DR; I'm not a real endorser, but maybe cuz of the obvious name-rhyme thing my drummer/husband felt like making this film of me doing a 2-track improv on the Zon wearing a set of new bright blue strings....

Love the coated DRs on fretless basses - gonna buy some black beauties this afternoon. After 3 years on the Zon, (2/3 headstock) I put those worn-out peacock blue long scale strings on a short-scale SX P bass (4-in-line headstock) i just acquired from the 'Bay, but I tuned it DGCF. What thumpy bark! Excellent tension and feel on the 30" scale. YMMV, but i think I'm onto something here. :)

I have a question. I'm going to pick up some DR Hi-beams tomorrow for my new MIM Jazz bass. I assume the tension on these strings is pretty close to the Fender strings that are on the bass now?

PS. First time trying steel strings....been playing for ten years and it just never really appealed to me until now. I'm pretty excited.

High Beams are round core, so they will have less tension. If you want similar tension to what you have, you might want LoRiders.

Black Beauties on my VM jazz and my Washburn B-50 ("Ethel") and Hi-Beams on my '73 Precision.

I've been using Fat Beams for about half a year and that was quite a disappointment for me. A sax player noted at the first rehearsal that he can't hear the pitch of the notes I am playing anymore. The scooped middle just didn't cut through the live mix (passive J, Lindy Fralins) and after a couple of gigs that was my experience too. Playing solos half deaf was a horrible experience and I'm sticking with Lo-Riders until the feeling of betrayal goes away.

The bottom end is huge for sure and slapping with headphones is a pleasure.
