DR Strings Club?

I like HiBeams on my fretted P and fretted J. I just put Black Beauties on my fretless Jazz, and I think I became a better bass player instantly. IMO, they are everything a string should be. I originally played Ernie Ball Hybrids because Justin Chancellor (TOOL) uses them, and learned a valuable lesson....don't emulate anyone, choose what you like. That, and Justin is really insanely talented!!

the story so far: i bought a wonderful used squier precision special in shoreline gold early last year. when it arrived i was blown away of its sound. as the strings it came with went dead after lots of playing i got in trouble because all of my favorite strings didnt make the bass sound like first.

so i tried all of the fender strings, then some rotos, ddario (which i prefer on my jazz bass). but i had no luck until i finally came to dr strings - which i did not like on all my other basses - first i tried lo-riders. it was not the sound i had in mind but there was the feeling which i missed in all other strings. then i came to hi-beams - and these are the ****ing strings that do it for me.

after 20 years of bass playing, i must say that choosing the right string for my bass is one of the most important things now. i will try sunbeams the next time but honestly i dont think that they can be better on this precision bass.

just a last add to my string story: even when i now have found my sound again, i am sure that the dr strings are not the ones tha bass came with because these ones had red silk on both ends of the string. i am curious if i sometimes stuble on the original strings but i am i no hurry anymore.

Sunbeams are my string of choice, and have been for years. A friend just sold me eight sets of 105 Long Necks that I found I cannot use. Anyone who can use them, let me know and we can work something out.

Been using SS Lo Riders since the mid-'90s, and haven't found anything better yet. They are ideal for what I do. They last and last. But it's always a thrill to install a new set and get that here-we-go feeling.

Yes. But in my experience, green Neons seem to last longer than the other colors.

Glad to see this thread back from the not so dead. I love DR strings! i was using 110-50 Hi Beams for Eb tuning but my gig now is mostly standard so it's 105-45 Hi Beams and Fat Beams with a 125 B. My son digs the Neons in green 125-45.
