I never leave all my gear anywhere for just this reason.

If I leave an amp, I take the power cord and speaker cords with me, and cover it if I have a Tuki cover for it (which I generally do).

I never leave my pedalboard or instruments anywhere. They always travel home with me. Always.

Yeah me too...I would leave my amp/cab (on milkcrates or stand of some sort) but nothing else especially if its a basement.

Yes, any one of these pedals was a Bad Cat? The cat ain't castrated yet, otherwise he/she wouldn't mark his/her territory like that.

Castrated/neutered cats will still mark stuff.

I'm wondering if @markmeloney has any pets at home, if there was a lingering scent on the pedalboard of some sort that made the cat in the drummer's place feel threatened.
Or the litter box was gross.
Or the cat has a UTI.

As far as cleaning stuff goes, it can be done.
White vinegar and direct sunlight can do wonders for feline urine removal.

When I was 18 I left a gig bag at a friends house. His cat peed on it and it reeked. Years later it still had a faint ammonia smell.

Since then I've never left gear any where. Keep the gig bags stored away.

Oddly I've come to learn from owning my own cats that they love to pee on the type of textured fabric. I had a messenger bag that has been peed on several times. Tried to wash it but the smell never got out. They also pee on my rain coat, but at least that is waterproof.

I had a pet rat incidentally (3 actually at different times). He would come when called. Sadly, theyre forever incontinent.

Rats and mice leave a urine trail so they can go back the way they came,it helps them go back quickly if chased by a predator etc.They are active at night so it helps there too.Incontinent? Not sure that's the right term. That's all...

My old guitarist had a Peavey keyboard amp in his practice space and his roommate's ferret chewed a hole through the speaker grill and cone. Fortunately that roommate and his ferret left before I started leaving my amp there.

He had another roommate who was pissing him off, and the guitarist's cat started crapping in that roommate's bed. The guitarist's cat is totally a dude, I like him a lot, and he had his owner's back, but to me that seems a bit extreme.

I have a cat. He's never urinated on my gear, but he did puke up a hairball on my HD500 once. Luckily that thing is sealed pretty good and it was easy to clean. After that I made sure I always tipped it up against my amp so he wouldn't do it again. As far as peeing goes, like others have said it could be a health issue that he should have checked out. But one simple thing to try is to make sure the drummer doesn't keep the cat food right next to the litter box. They don't like to eat where they $hit/piss. And since they have to eat, they will eventually eliminate in other areas of the house to fix their own problem. Move the food and water to another room. If that's not the situation, for the time being I would not leave your gear on the floor when not in use. Cats also like speaker cabs covered with that furry type stuff. They think it makes a good scratching post. So cover your cabs with a towel or blanket when not in use.

Reminds me of the time my neighbours basement flooded and the Marshall cab was halfway submerged in sewage water. We poured the water out days later. I don't leave my gear anywhere since then.

Hmm...this (among many other reasons) is why I never leave gear anywhere. No exceptions.

First off, does the drummer know about this? One, he should be apologizing and helping you clean up your pedals and going so far as to replace anything that's permanently "marked". Hopefully you'll be okay just wiping down the pedals with cleaner and replacing the Velcro!

Well, it definitely sucks, but I am not so sure the drummer whose house is being used for rehearsal space owes the OP replacement of gear, etc. I had a friend leave some drum gear in my basement because he didn't room to store it at his place anywhere. Then we got a septic backup, and a wood ammo box he used to carry/store hardware was damaged. Well, I felt bad for him, but I don't warranty everyone's experience when using my house as a place to leave gear. I take all reasonable precautions, but surely I don't need to have you sign a waiver if I am doing you a favor of providing my space for your stuff. I don't feel I am on the hook for $ for something I provided to someone free of charge as a gesture of goodwill. You want guarantees, rent a storage unit or rent a practice rehearsal space. Just one way to think of this situation, I guess.

No reason to stoop to the high school boy's room level, but a few things:

1. That cat does indeed need help. Cats don't "just do that" - either that cat has a medical problem and is seeking attention for it the best way it knows how, or it has a behavioral issue.

2. Is there, um, a door on this room?

3. +1 to "don't leave gear."

So as with many bands, We keep all of our gear at the drummer's place to avoid lugging it around - specifically in his poorly lit basement. The other day I took my pedalboard home to do some modifications and when I went to take one of the pedals off I thought 'why is this all sticky?', Then I took a closer look and realized the entire thing was covered in cat piss!! all 4 pedals, the wooden board I made by hand, all of the wires, freaking everything. Had to take the whole thing apart and go to town with a wet rag and a lot of lysol kitchen cleaner. god knows how long the piss was there before I noticed it. Perhaps I've been touching my pedals and then eating without washing my hands..

You remind me of why I have no animals

Don't leave any equipment at that house ... unless you want to clean more piss off of it.

Seeing as how a couple of restaurants in my area have been investigated and the feral cat population has dropped significantly in the 14 years I have lived in this area , I can see several solutions to your problem.
