Again, massive numbers of songs are written every year. Even if we were looking exclusively at songs that reach the Billboard 100, only a small fraction get sued for copyright infringement.

Common chord progressions on their own are very difficult to claim copyright. When you combine chord progressions, rhythms, and melodies, you might have a lawsuit on your hands.
