Here's a really funny and sad one posted by a bass player:

Bass Player Seeking Band (Richmond)

I'm a great pro bass player looking for a new band, and have a lot of experience playing in all kinds of bands. I don't like to brag, but to be honest I'm the best bass player in Richmond. I used to have some problems not making it and canceling practice at the last minute but all of that is behind me now.

I am picky about the kind of music I play. I don't like playing in original bands, because most of the players in those bands aren't good enough to play covers, and I don't like country because it's for morons.

I'll play any style except reggae, ska, country, originals, classical, hip hop, rap, alternative, jazz, punk, new age, classic rock, or metal. I play current rock, and only current rock, even though most of it sucks, so I'm extremely particular about the kind of music I play. Think Nirvana meets Eric Clapton, with a touch of Motor Head thrown in (I know they're not NEW, but that's the style of music I prefer). If that is the kind of music you play, hit me up, otherwise don't waste my time.

I'm ready to play immediately. I just need a little help financially to get my bass out of the pawn shop, and it would be great if you can loan me a little for strings, just until we get paid from our first gig, and I'll pay you back. I'm going through a messy divorce, but fortunately I get my kids part of the time, usually on the weekends. That won't be a problem though, because I can get a babysitter if I have enough notice if a gig comes up. I don't have a phone right now, but I'm planning to get a prepaid one as soon as I get a job. I'm staying with a friend right now and writing this on his computer, so you can contact me here. He says I can stay here one more month before I have to find a new place. I'm hoping to move back in with my Mom since my divorce, but for some reason she's not returning my calls. My car got repossessed recently, so it would be great if someone in the band can give me a ride and haul my bass, just until we get things going and we start making some serious money. My brother knows a guy whose sister is dating the ex-drummer of a band in Fargo, North Dakota that used to get some bookings from an agent in Detroit who cousin is the wife of a lawyer that who was hired to put together a deal for a band that almost got a contract with a big record company in Los Angeles before the deal fell through. Bottom line is, I've got great connections.

Yes, I am in RECOVERY, and part of recovery is admitting you have a problem, but I haven't had any significant relapses since my last stint in rehab, I only smoke a little pot, and only on the breaks, and I'm always careful nobody sees me in the parking lot. All other form of recreation wait until AFTER the gig! Besides, unlike some other bass players in Richmond that have on-going "issues" (you bass players know who you are) you know you can absolutely count on me staying sober and NOT HAVING A SUBSTANCE ABUSE OR ALCOHOL PROBLEM because my doctor says any of that stuff will interfere with the effectiveness of my medication.

I'm ready to play, so If you want the best bass player in Richmond, hit me up!

I'm sure it is. Just in case, though, I thought about replying to see if he thought he could be the BEST BASSIST IN PORTLAND. Offer him his bass out of hock, a set of strings, airfare to Oregon, crash at my house, take my wife, my dog, drink my beer, etc....LOL

I mentioned, a few pages back, the self-appointed brand-moderator on our local CL ("It's a SQUIER/EPIPHONE, not a Fender/Gibson, you ass-hat!")...here's an example -

If you ever want to sell that gear, much less not offend the intelligence of any self-respecting musician on this board, you're gonna have to drop the price man. All you have is a Squier (not even a Fender - something I will get to later) which even the best ones are hardly worth $200 new let alone used. Everything else as far as I can see is a low-wattage practice amp, soft case, and headphones, which altogether couldn't be more than $100 new. Even if it was worth your $700 new, you can't sell it for that! People must realize that in order to sell something, you have to price it at something that people will buy at, otherwise what stops them from buying it new? Sure, sometimes this means selling it for less than what you want, or sometimes maybe even less than what its worth, but that's how you gotta sell it. Getting less than what you asked for is better than drawing a zilch. On that note, I wouldn't pay more than $150 for that bundle you got there, and even then only if I was desperate! I could get an actual MIM Fender for $700!

Come on, man, who are you trying to kid? The only excuse for this BS may be that you don't really play guitar that much so you wouldn't know, but obviously you HAD to buy this **** new so you know damn well how much it's worth (unless you didn't in which case I apologize). I don't mean to pick on just you either but every ******* on craigslist who tries to sell crap they KNOW isn't worth their asking price (in many cases they originally paid LESS than what they're asking). It gets me so STEAMED to see these BS ads all over craigslist, not so much because someone might be ripped off (hopefully people are smart enough to know when a price is too high) but because there are people who think they can actually get away with that ****, who think that the rest of fresno is that stupid and that they are right to take advantage of anyone who actually might be (delusions of grandeur, if you ask me). It is so archetypal of the mentality of people in fresno, and that's why it's become such a craphole in recent years, especially in the music scene.

And another thing -- if you have a Squier or Epiphone, please DO NOT post it as a Fender or Gibson!!! It is not!! I'm not even worried about people thinking it's a genuine when it isn't, usually because it can be told from the price whether it is or not (unless someone is brave enough to jack up the price too, then you can go to hell). It just goes back to being honest with your fellow musicians and not being be a snake in the grass, trying to cheat anyone they can out of as much money as they can.

Also, PLEASE do not try to advertise something as better than it is with fancy words because it doesn't work and only turns people off to your ad!! Once I saw someone post an Epiphone LP-100 (the cheapest on the Epiphone line) as Gibson solid mahogany body electric guitar (yeah, for $200? my ass!). Do yourselves a favor, be honest with yourself and others and just post your item HOW IT IS. Trust me, people have a lot more respect for someone who is just straight up about what they have, even if it isn't that great, than someone who talks like a used car salesman. If you ever want to sell something, you must be straight with your customer. Let's keep the crap OFF craigslist!

...now I suppose that the guy has a point, but to spend four paragraphs making that point makes me want to suggest a cocktail of de-caf and Prozak for him...

My god, that's a rant!

Most people that know the difference would give a strange look and go nowhere near the ad....but THIS GUY...IS....THE BASS NAZI!!!!

There's a traumatic childhood something in there, I just know it.

I'll bet he just loves telling people what to do, being the expert, passing judgment, lecturing.....all that kind of thing! Reminds me of my keyboardist - except the keyboardist is often just plain wrong.

\

My rates are reasonable, $10 per slap live, $40 per slap in the studio, and $100 if you want me to play Crazy Train or Sweet Emotion.

Found a looooooooooong winded ad from some people looking for a DB player for their "rock, funk, punk, drum'n'bass ,dubstep, electronic, hip-hop,trip-hop,jazz,blues,stoner,industrial,reggae,dub,psychedelic" project. Very informative, for example they inform us that they plan to buy a condenser mic to record vocals. But the best part is towards the end when they ask for some recordings, and more specifically:

"Your own compositons (or fragments of improvisation) for double bass or bass guitar. As a last resort you can send them as tab for guitar pro because it's obvious that double bass is harder to record than guitar."

I guess they didn't get enough replies and posted it again a few hours later.

Where's my 10-foot pole!?!

Those guys are not the best. I know because I'm the best there ever was. I can play Stairways to Heaven better than Lead Zepplin. Not only that, I play with only two fingers. One on the neck, and one on the other part. I'm really that fast. And good. And I only have three strings, because my G broke, but now I play even better, because I only need three strings. And I have an adaptor to go from 110 volts to 220 volts and back to 110 volts so I can get that vintage English sound. So, stop saying your the best bcause clearly I am the best. I can even play most songs in all three major keys. So those guys cant come close and they should just shut up.
