Interestingly enough, I have a job that pays me quite well and also gives me a lot of free time.
I spend that free time volunteering at a place near my house.
There are other people that come there and volunteer their free time as well. The odd thing is that I spend more time there to a point that some people believe I work there. There's nothing inherently wrong with that.
The fact that other volunteers will sometimes talk to you like you're lesser because of it does kind of get annoying sometimes, especially when you consider I actually have what some would argue is a nicer full time job.
I have asked a lot of the full time employees there if it's normal for folks that come from places like where I work to volunteer and be unnecessarily rude to them as well. The answer was unanimously, "Yes," and that makes me very sad.
