Dumbest thing you've seen someone do onstage

singer on mic 1: "can you all here me? (leave it up to the sound-engineer, that´s why they´re there... stupid!) Well, i can´t sing for s##t, so you might be better off not hearing me..."

singer on mic 2: "we suck, but try to bear with us anyway..."

singer on mic 3: -after the band has finished their last song- "sorry for tormenting you with our s##tty songs..."

What an attitude...

local band opening for the Who at a small venue during their first American tour. I think it was 1966. They tried to play "Can't Explain". Can't imagine what they were thinking, and it didn't escape the notice of Pete Townsend, who took a couple of seconds to humiliate them before showing them how the song REALLY went. Dumb!

Paul McCartney letting Linda McCartney sing

yeah but at least he knew enough to pull he down in the mix. bruce has her full up. she's fine as a backup vocalist because none of the e-streeter's can hit those high notes anymore. as for the john and yoko thing.........THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER DO HEROINE. it clouds ones judgement. :eyebrow:

I got this dvd of this band called Bury Your Dead. During the second song in their set the guitarist swings his guitar around his shoulders, and the headstock hit the singer right in the back of his head. They still went on with the show, and the singer had to get stitches where the guitar hit him.

i was at the Astoria in London seeing AFI in my younger days and there was this pretty bad support act,

any way the front man spent most of the show prancing around, the whole crowd were laughing at his weird faces and funny body positions, so this is getting to him a little bit so he starts trying to act a bit tougher, you know jumping around, spinning and all that.

in doing this he gets his mike cord tangled up all around his legs, he goes to take another jump, the lead pulls back against him and he falls head first on the fold back monitor in front of him and knocks himself clear out!

so the guitarist notices and stops playing and then the paramedics where called!

its funny what an audience of 5000 stoned kids can do to someones ego.

I work at a hotel, so I get to see a lot of "dinner party" bands playing. Anyway, there was this band playing a wedding last december. I know, it's an odd time to have a wedding but there you go.

Anyway, the band rolled in at 5, ready to set up in the Classics suite when the main dinner was over (they would be playing after the buffet that night). Now, I was working til late that night, so I was looking forward to watching the band. I always look forward to seeing these bands, by way of passing the time while I serve food (and young lads gotta finance his GAS somehow ;) ).

Anyway, these guys come in at 5, and start setting up when the suite was empty. The guitarist went over and got his Soldano amp out, started setting it up, plugged his Strat in and started playing, not for any reason, because the PA board wasn't even in place, and neither were the PA speakers. The Classics suite is relatively large, so I gave them a hand pushing some of the speakers in (big 18" ones!).

As I was doing this, I could hear the bassist and the guitarist arguing. The drummer seemed to be getting mad at the bassist too, but eventually they shut and up and the bassist went back to fiddling with his Ashdown amp. Anyway, he asks their roady to bring his bass through from the hall, to which the roadie replies he hasn't got it. The roadie thought the drummer had it. The drummer said he thought the bassist had it.

So, the bassist leaves, and dashes home in his car to get his bass. A few angry words were exchanged as he left, and the guitarist and the drummer proceeded to have a pretty cool jam.

Anyway, nearly an hour and a half later, nearing 7PM, the bassist comes into the suite, sweating like a pig, shouts and insult at his less than impressed guitarist and proceeds to take a Cort out of his hard case. The guests are arriving in the suite, I'm darting about with canapes and my brother is serving champagne to the guests. The bassist plugs in, seemingly forgetting to tune his bass, makes a quick approximation of his EQ when crouching by his amp, then shouts over to the guys at the desk "just slip 'us in there at the bottom end lads".

Anway, the band look less than impressed at him, the singer and the guitarist talk quietly to themseves, before leaving with the drummer to the back rooms where the bands wait for their cue. The bassist ended up in the hotels public bar, called Chats (I saw him knocking back shots of gin, who on eart drinks Gin by the shot?).

Anyway, I got on with my night, and everything was fine until the band turned up. As soon as they staretd playing, I could hear the bassist was fiercely out of tune, every note was far flat of what it should have been. His tone was also awful, his strings sounded relativley new, with enough zing to cut through. His loud, annoying tone was getting to everyone. At some point, the drummer and the guitarist told him to sort himself out, he was quite drunk and a slanging match soon ensued on stage. He had been messing his parts up for the past 20 minutes, but when they tried to play "Want you back" by the Jackson 5, the music stopped completey. The bassist stopped play and stepped near the singers microphone and called the guitarist a "f****** W@n***". A full scale argument ensued, he left the stage angrily and took his gear, and persumably drove home drunk, endangering the lives of others (my collegues went to warn him about drink driving but it seems he had made a quick escape.).

The band apologised about him, the bride left in tears and they were all offered a sympathy pint from the bar staff after the drunked bassist ruined their set.

Stupidest thing I've ever seen on stage.

i went to see a local band play (back when i lived in maryland) and the band wasn't getting any crowd reaction and the guitar player said on the the p.a. "if anyone thinks they can do better come up here". of course half the crowd were musicians.

At a battle of the bands in march, a metalcore played one of their first shows. The guitarist decided it was time for the classic 'spin your guitar over your head' and did so with his back turned to the audience. Well about mid-point of the swing, the guitar strap snaps sending his guitar flying into the audience. (of about 15 kids and a few selected people trying to get to the bathroom) Well the guitar soars through the air, does a few flips and manages to hit someone directly in the head. Funny enough, it was the singer for the next band in the competition. :p

moral: if your gonna spin your intrument whether guitar, bass or even keytar, buy a locking system...you might be saving a life. :D

Which would make no difference.

A better strap might have helped but a breaking strap is not going to be alleviated by having straplocks.
