Dumbest thing you've seen someone do onstage

I have two... "stories"

First, my friend brought his brand new Gibson Les Paul to school one day and decided to do the slingy thing.

Guess what happened... unrepairable damage.

And then my OTHER friend was playing a solo for Battle of the Bands and he dropped his pick in the middle of a solo.

Also, I was at a local band's concert, and the singer/rythm guitarist slipped and fell on his ass after spitting beer.

It was hilarious!

Ok, so a local act called Creeping Charly was playing in a small, cool bar. They're a heavy metal act(read screaming and loud loud guitars) and this bar is a classic-rock sort of place to start with. The place is inexplicably packed with people anyway, and the singer starts going on about how the crowd should F things up. So in this smallish bar, 3-4 200+ pound dudes start moshing, with me on the edge of it in front of my girlfriend. Long story short, she had to drag my supremely angry self out of there before I did something really stupid to one of the mongoloid moshers. On another occasion, this same singer wanted to go crowd-surfing....in this bar.....with about 20 people there. I ended up holding the guy up....should have thrown him somewhere. No worries though, their guitar player is going to jail and their drummer has to get pins in his leg.

what bar was this?

I did something that could equally qualify as cool or dumb, depending on your perspective. I just look back at it as a cool "rock" moment....

Back in the day when I was in a Metal band of local moderate success we were on stage in front of about 650 hometown people rocking out hard. During one song we had a beat or so pause then the band kicks back in heavy (if we had pyro, that would be one of those big overblown "KICK IT!!" type moments) we had worked it out in rehersals and other shows that I make a big jump in the air taking off on the last note and the band watches my landing, kicking back in when my feet connect to the ground.

Well this show the stage was wide but not too deep and I took a nice running start, stepping off from the drum riser and leaping forward, bass pulled back, legs tucked in. Keep in mind that I had extensive martial arts training, and favoured high jumping kicks. Jumping high up in the air this was my "thing" you could say. I had so much momentum that I actually cleared the front lip of the stage and continued to fall 4 feet to the floor. I had my hands in place holding the chord and strummed through all 5 strings upon hitting the ground. The band told me after it felt like an eternity waiting for me to land, but they kicked back in exactly at the right time, how they knew where my feet were I'll never know, but they nailed it.

I landed with such a hard blow that my knees buckled, slamming the insides of them together and into the hardwood floor, opening a nice 1" gash on the inside of my left knee, have the scar still today. I used Tortex "Sharp" picks then and between the momentum and them I literally CUT both the B and E strings in half. I didn't break them, I cut them, I had four 1/2 string ends swaying in the breeze for the remainder of the song, which I finished by just transposing everything up an octave, the easiest solution to me at the time and in my state.

I dragged myself out of hte mosh pit, back on stage and finished the song. I did drop out a bit, but in all honestly for no more than about 3-4 bars as I got myself back onstage.

And the moral of the story.... always bring a backup. I did and finished the show with it. :bassist:

Collective Soul played at a small venue here a few years ago. Someone threw a bottle cap at the lead singer and I guess it hit him. He stops the song, starts yelling at the audience and tells the person who threw it to come up there so he could kick his ass. Now, I'm starting to wish I had thrown it so I could take him up on his offer and beat him down in front of his band. Well, his comments piss off the audience and there was major dis-interest for the rest of the show. I used to like them before this little Sebastian Bach type tirade. I mean, if someone does it, ask nicely, don't go off like you are Ric Flair about to fight the Ultmate Warrior.

Uhhhh, my cousin went to see G.G. Allin (I hate him personally) and he taped it and the guy runs around naked and takes dumps on stage and literally wipes it on his face :scowl: . Thats pretty dumb. Good thing hes not alive anymore to do that sick crap

I went to a friends' show earlier in the week and there was one particularly smart gentleman that decided to throw a pitcher of water at the band. Song stops, singer steps off the stage and literally throws the dude outta the bar by himself, no help needed. Singer comes back in and they pick up where they left off.

Actually, that was probably the smartest thing I've seen a bandmember do, and no so smart for drunken fan. Why am I posting in this thread? :p

Heh. Heres one.

Was at this rock concert where college bands were to perform..
This heavy set dude.. all of 6 and a half feet probably..tough looking vocalist.. comes up to the mike during his band's sound check. Screams out lyrics with a super gruff voice, woulda put hetfield to shame. Was kinda impressed.

Until he finishes his check. The bassist asks him to tell the sound guy to increase his monitor feedback. And the guy speaks over the microphone to the mixer guy in his natural CHIPMUNK squeek "please increase the monitor feedback for the bass please."
I mean hello. My grandma sounds more manly than that.
Eeesh.

the dumbest thing you've ever seen onstage was someone speaking in their natural voice?

Way back from high school....
There's a college here that holds a "battle of the bands" every fall.
2nd or 3rd band comes on; does a quick 5-minute soundcheck, during which everything sounds ok. (I should mention here that the bass player quickly unplugged-POP!-and plugged into his tuner one last time)
They start their first song and all you hear is high-hat and complete wash of waaaay to trebley guitar-like fingernails on a chalkboard!
They were supposed to be a my bloody valentine-type band, so I thought maybe they were suppossed to sound that way...
Then I notice it. Yup, the bass player was still plugged into his tuner! One of those really cheap plastic box -quartz deals. So as he's jumping around, there's the tuner flopping on the floor like a fish.:p He never notices.
That explains the bass...
Still couldn't hear the singer, though.
They finish (finally) and one of the 2 soundguys takes one look at the mic -a wireless- holds it up, and yells back to his partner, "Found the problem! He shut his mic off!"

I still don't know what was up with the drummer; could hear him pounding as hard as he could on his cymbals, but not his drums?
Guitar sounded horrible. Like white noise.

And this is why you don't tweak your knobs after the soundcheck!

Ha! Kurt kicked him, too! Makes it even better.
Speaking of Kurt, Jeffrey Ross' Kurt joke on the Pam Anderson roast was pretty dumb. Even at a roast, that joke was just low.
I won't post the link due to content, but it's easy to find on youtube.
