Dunlop Strings - one word "Wow"

FWIW

I'm not close friends with either of them, but I am a loyal Dunlop string and Mesa amp player.

Why, it's very simple - because they both sound better than the other brands.

:D

I respect that you like Dunlop strings. I'm more clarifying who designed them and being contrite that as a friend of both sides, I don't have a bias.

I've been pretty much a DR High Beam guy for the last four years. A friend of mine who works at music store started carrying them because of me. I play pretty agressively (finger style). My biggest bitch is how easily the DR's break. I have to replace strings on two basses after 9 hours of stage time or run the risk of them breaking (mainly the E string, broke an A Saturday night). I put some Dunlop's on one of my basses last week and am going to really pay attention to how long they'll go. If they stay as bright and punchy and last just as long as DR, I'm jumpin ship. DR's are spendy. I spent probably $750 so far this year on strings. (I play 60+ shows a year) I wouldn't mind spending less.

I usually use DR HiBeams and thought I'd try a set of Dunlop Stainless. Not bad strings at all. Better than Ernie Balls and about on par with D'Addario's.

Try their Nickle Plated ones sometime, if you have a few bucks to spare, they are *far suprior* to their Steels, one of the very nicest string I've come across.

The steels ain't bad at all, I still prefer Rotos for steel, but I don't like how Rotos eat frets.:hmm:

I've had two sets of these so far, and it's a love/hate relationship for me. The E is tapered, and even the A is a few wounds tapered, but the B isn't tapered. Very strange, I thought it was just my first pack was a problem but the second was the same. Another thing is in both sets the B string looks almost a different color as if not the same alloy or something. But I did have both sets strung up on my ESP and do dig the feel and tone, not quite as bright as the daddario XLs I usually use.

Even the D is taperd, but very slightly.

As for the B, its a Nickle Plated-Non Tapered, dunno why, but I assume thats what Rob asked for.

I think their SS are a little smoother than ProSteels and they look a little shinier, like nickel strings almost. ProSteels kind of have that dirty old string look like a lot of SS. I really like them a lot. I have the nickels and the SS and they are great. For $16 a set, you simply can't go wrong. Now if only they wouldk make a flatwound.

FWIW - The Perfect Bass site is showing a 6 string set. http://www.theperfectbass.com/explore.cfm?STORE=Y&N=110&SN=383&CT=101a&PG=103690101&W=STORE&P=N&S=1001081&U=1&SS=1&CR=Y

I wonder how long the 5 and 6 sets are ...

I was just about to post that here. Dunlop answered my email about it today.

Why on Earth does the perfect bass sell them, but they aren't listed on the Dunlop site?

I really want to try a set on my Warwick. I wonder if it could handle a non tapered .130 B string........

Excuse my curiosity, but how would you compare the Dunlop nickels to the Trujillo taperwounds? (I can't have both... :hmm:)
