Dunlop Strings - one word "Wow"

BTW,I have used both the Dunlop Nickel Roundwounds & DR LoRiders, and I would take the LoRiders over the Dunlops anyday.

Well, everyone has their preference. I played DR strings almost exclusively for the better part of 15 years, and Dunlop strings are the first string I've used that work better for me than what DR offers. Over that 15 years I've tried a lot of different strings from different manufacturers and DR strings always played and sounded the best to me, until now.

I am using both DR strings and Dunlop strings and trying to find a clear cut winner. I have used lowriders in the past and always found them to have a higher tension feel. You can dig in harder or you can set your action lower with no fret buzz compared to some other strings, but that is because of their core (IMO).

Well, I have to say when I first used these strings I really loved them. After using them for about two weeks they seemed to have gotten very tight, almost uncomfortable to play. Not sure if this is how it usually goes with these but Im guessing its just because this how tey are when you break them in. I feel like these strings may have been too good to last. Its not even like theyre dead or anything just very high tension (in my opinion anyway). So it seems for now I'm sticking with the Sadowsky blues.

Yep, Ive never experienced that kind of problem with any other strings. Not saying this is normal with Dunlop strings, just saying at first, the tension felt perfect to my fingers, and now it does not. They are significantly higher tension than when I first played them. Im wondering if this could possibly be a result of my
neck adjusting to the tension since I first strung them up? really not sure.

The bass is still in tune or sharp?

My bass is usually still tuned pretty accurately when I remove it from the case, I havent run into any problems with intonation or tuning since I did a slight truss rod adjustment about 2 days after I strung them up. The neck doesn't seem to have budged at all sinced then.

No problem.

I just wanted to get the word out, especially to ALL the guys who liked DR strings when they first came out.

Many people have been noticing lately that DR strings "Ain't what they used to be", so if you are looking for something better you may want to give the Dunlops a try.

You just might be surprised people!!!

I currently enjoy using Nickel-Plated Lo Riders on my 4-string, so I may give the Dunlops a try soon. Thanks for the suggestion.

DRs are still my tops. Normally DR, GHS and Elixir are teh three for me. On my newly acquired Godin the new set of elixirs were very tight... like super finger strength training tight.

Last night at GC I picked up some medium nickel plated steel dunlops after reading through this thread. So far I can tell you I may never buy elixirs again. Same gauge as the elixirs and they just feel right. Lets see how they turn out.

Ok so Im giving the Dunlops another go. They just sound too good on my bass to not give them another shot. Same set, strung them up again and they just sound perfect, with good tension not too tight not too loose. I'm going to hold back on doing any neck adjustments for the first few days and I'll see how it goes.

I've had two sets of these so far, and it's a love/hate relationship for me. The E is tapered, and even the A is a few wounds tapered, but the B isn't tapered. Very strange, I thought it was just my first pack was a problem but the second was the same. Another thing is in both sets the B string looks almost a different color as if not the same alloy or something. But I did have both sets strung up on my ESP and do dig the feel and tone, not quite as bright as the daddario XLs I usually use.

thought I'd show a pic of the Trujillo strings in action. I took them off yesterday and went back to my prosteels, just too weird of a feeling set with the B a different alloy and not tapered. I did have one set on for a few months and this set a few weeks worth of gigs and gave them an honest try, but in the end just didn't dig it.
