Dunwich Amplification General Discussion

most of the "mojo" of the HM2 resides in its EQ, it's actually a 3 band EQ with the hi knob controlling 2 frequency bands at once centered around 900hz and 1,1Khz IIRC. When the hi knob is cranked it creates this huge double peak mid boost which is responsible for the chainsaw tone made popular by swedish death metal
Ok, I knew that. Is that such a huge feature? Seems like a simple thing to do, but I’m no tech, so what do I know? Of course if it sounds great, that’s all that matters in the end.

If you aren't following DA on FB or Instagram, preorders for three new designs are up. All three are tempting.
Found out about it last night and it's taking all my willpower not to at least buy one. The Temporal Rift I see more as a guitar pedal, and I am covered for Rats, HM-2's and FZ-2's, but man that Witchfinder is calling my name bad.

Wraith M2?!
HM2 EQ on a VT?!
Man, I’m good on dirt, but I may need to pull the trigger on one of these. I love the HM2 on certain basses, like my Ric 4003.

Well the RAT section is close to the original RAT design so it doesnt have the built in supply doubling or of course the Bass and Treble controls on the VT. Its more of a guitar pedal. You could run an 18V supply into it for more headroom though. That will work just fine.

Its just kind of the trademark EQ response from the circuit. When you crank the EQ the Q factor of the EQ becomes very sharp so the resonance in the EQ is part of the mojo. Also there is a huge low mid notch that is created due to the huge boost in the two bands.

Only problem I might see for you is that the Witchfinder does not have blend.

True, but it isn't a dealbreaker for me. I can always throw it in a loop, or use it for other things. Man, I just want one in general because I collect Superfuzz variants. Gonna see if my finances allow a purchase today, although I may hold off given our prelim conversation of the custom pedal.

I can always build more later.

103k? Pfffft. My last one had 170k before a timing belt broke and killed the engine. If it hadn’t broken broken, I’d still be proudly driving it into the 200k range. I hate spending money on things (except bass stuff...). Function over form over here.
I seem to have a lot of bad luck with cars. It is only 4 years old btw. My last one started coming apart at 120k. I did a thread in this in the misc, but the short version is I've had nothing but trouble with my Ford Focus. I wouldn't mind it if it was rock solid, but it isn't. The minimum cost to get the stereo replaced is around $400. I owe about $3k. I'd rather put that towards paying it off and swapping it out before I lose more value in it or something really expensive happens.

Dang. Mine was 10 years old. 100k in 4 years is rough. Fords aren’t what they used to be, last I was searching for used cars.

I suppose on the upside, the problems haven't been catastrophic. That seems to be how Fords are these days. I had a ZX2 that was the same way. The engine and transmission will keep working, but everything else will fall apart.
I drive about 80 miles a day for work. There is also a lot of gigging\rehearsing miles on that car. You can't do anything where I live without driving 15-20 miles. Plus the weather here is brutal. 95 to 110 for months then below freezing at night for months.

I'm still experimenting but I just discovered that running the Volt Thrower through the Damnation Loop Blender is producing some mighty results!

I love the 124b Wizard Fuzz... it’s brilliant.

I've not used a fuzz quite like it. Your guys' first impressions and feedback about the versatility of the WF125B with the addition of the Blend was spot on.. The way it maintains my bass' natural character + the Wizard fuzz flavor whether using it as fuzz, full-on distortion, or gritty dirt is really impressive. I especially like how when used as full-on distortion it makes the 5th and 4th strings sound like little explosions. Lol, as rare as they are right now I feel lucky to have one

After having and playing with the new wizard for a month or so now it’s really similar to my 125 VT. They sure look good next to each other on the board but I find I can get everything I need and want in a fuzz to distortion better and more to my liking with the VT. Just my ear preference.
The Wizard definitely has a different type of filtering that I kinda like but it’s very close sounding (through my system anyway) to the VT with gain full on.
