Lobster - dunno about the prize... I haven't even dissected that equation...

OK, let's try this from another angle. Let's say that "a" through "d" are recipes/dishes you prepare for dinner on Monday through Thursday nights. Then "e" is the pot of stew you cook up on Friday using selected ingredients left over from the previous nights. All the great flavors and textures of the previous dishes are there, but they're now combined into a new, unique culinary sensation!

Surely there must be some kind of prize for THIS.....

Dammit, you know me (and my love of cooking) too well!

But getting down to it, my theory is this: Adrian is a crazy genius, and I learn his songs, without question. I heard the finale that is "e" first, before any of the other tracks. I knew it was amazing, and every other preceding song was like a piece of the puzzle. They are all different, but yet they all are chromatic, and therefore made up of the same components that make the final product. I will reiterate that I do not know how Ade came up with any of the pieces, but I am glad -- better -- for having learned (and composed) my parts, and help in making "e" what it is. I just am so proud with the way the album has turned out, and not in my wildest dreams could I have ever imagined collaborating with such a brilliant human being.

Thanks for sharing those thoughts, Julie. It's really interesting to me to think about how different a perspective you would have by learning "e" first and then the other parts. Like you cooked up the stew on the previous weekend, but then put in the fridge (to let the flavors blend) to serve on Friday after the others. In fact, I'm making a mental note: Next time I listen to the disc, I'm going to try listening to "e" first, and then go back and listen to a thru d. There's no doubt that "e" should be last on the CD, but having listened to it in order multiple times I think this will be really interesting.

The compositions themselves are surely brilliant: The whole package seems to me very much like a symphony in five movements. I can imagine music classes studying it and analyzing it for years. What's also apparent, though, is that he wrote this stuff with this particular trio in mind. It's hard to imagine it being played with anyone else on drums and bass!

Oh, and as for me "knowing you too well," blame your mother. As you might've guessed, I've been following her blog for awhile....

And now to shamelessly promote our East Coast Tour (which began last night in Knoxville)... Anybody coming to Smith's in Atlanta tonight?

It was great - the Bijou is an awesome little theater (although it was pretty tough to hear on stage - sound tends to go up up up) - I'm sure FOH is much better. From what I could tell, the new GK head smokes and I can't wait to hear it in a tight club setting (tonight).
And the fans were absolutely great - very vocal for a seated crowd. It made for an excellent tour starter - oh, and we played "c" from the new album. That was really rough for us, but in the end we kinda pulled it off...

And as usual, the cool acts never come to Orlando. Geez, with Gary Platt involved, you think you'd book something down here. Pretty grueling tour you guys have going...lots of shows in a row, but it sounds like nonstop fun. I'm becoming a big fan of yours, Julie. Anyone who can keep up with Adrian at his most eccentric is OK in my book! I don't buy many albums but I'll be picking up e.

Hey Jimmy - thanks for the support - the closest we've been to Orlando is St Petersburg, but alas no Florida dates on this run - I think we've learned enough times not to tour the Sunshine state in August... although I do love the peach stand on the way to West Palm...

PS - Gary Platt did an amazing job (of course).

Do we get a better concert lineup than Omaha? Yes we do. So I can't complain too much. But all my favorite acts that are a little out there seem to want to stay out of Florida. Yet they'll go to Atlanta, which is just as full of hillbillies as Orlando.

Trevor - unfortunately at the moment "e" is only for sale at shows and at adrianbelew.net. This should change in the future, but for now, those are our fans only options (and probably one of the reasons why you haven't listened to Ade's material since the days of Crim - but I won't go there...)

It's ok - they apparently had to turn people away at the door - so hopefully that means we'll be back in ATL soon!

Is your friend Rich? He's a great fan and it's awesome they get to open for us tomorrow.

oh, and we played "c" from the new album. That was really rough for us, but in the end we kinda pulled it off...

Wow, I can't believe you did "c." So now "d" should be a piece of cake, and we'll get the whole album in Annapolis, right? :D

BTW, I would be at the Vienna show Tuesday too, but (darn it) a buddy got us tickets for Hot Tuna in Charlottesville that night before we saw the ABPT schedule. I've heard tell that they have a bass player who's pretty good.... for a guy. :hiding:

I'd absolutely love to play "d" - and of course we eventually want to do that one as well. By Annapolis? I don't know... but actually when I come to think of it, I'm almost positive we've played it there... it was called "planet e" then. It was arranged somewhat differently, but we haven't practiced it since recording...
