eating alone in public

Hate it. I'll go through the drive thru at a fast food joint and eat in the parking lot before I'll go inside a restaurant and ask for a table. The counter at Denny's maybe, but even that's usually pushing it.

I don't mind it one bit. In fact, I tend to do it quite a bit just to get some time to myself.

If I'm pissed at the world or just stressed, I like going to a sports bar alone. Sit outside on the patio with a good burger, a pitcher of beer, and just watch ESPN and smoke. Totally turn my brain off for a couple hours.


And yes, I would go to red lobster by myself. Screw everyone else if they dont wanna go.

In sales and travel a bit so I'm used to it. I love people watching and meeting new folks, which I always end up doing. I try to go to places so that I can eat at the bar (like BJ's Brewery) as I did 5 times last week, and had a blast.

Even had a "proposition", but of course being happily married I declined and called my wife to brag. Any tall single friend of mine would have been golden.

Sadly my wife gave me the "No pics, no proposition" line. She's good, evil, but good.

I've always enjoyed doing so.

It's enjoyable to just sit quietly and consume a good meal... and if the wait person visits more than taking my order, delivering my food and bill... it annoys me a bit.

In fact... the thought of someone incapable (insecure) of enjoying the company of themselves... annoys the hell out of me too.

I used to really loathe eating alone out in public, and I would avoid doing so at all costs. I didn't want to look like a loner...but that was a few years back. Now, I have no sense of pride whatsoever. Life is much happier that way. I will gladly eat alone, sit back and savor the flavor, as well as the serenity of being alone :D

Interesting thread, since I'm currently a geo-bachelor and would starve to death if dining alone were a problem. Fortunately, unless it's with immediate family, I prefer to dine alone anyway. I have a large professional sphere of influence, but I don't maintain close friends and chit chat is excruciating for me. Ditto a bar/pub. I can occupy a stool all night, soak up the ambiance without actually interacting with anyone, and still have a great night. Different strokes and all that jazz. :cool:

I eat way too fast, so-by the time I look around twice, it's history. < burp >. :rollno:

When I was 20, a friend told a tag along with us at Micky D's, you'll be fine as long as you don't put your hands too close to his mouth!
