So true. I've lost more than one auction decision because some anal was unfair. Even after reading threatening emails from the buyer eBay sided with the buyer. I got back a damaged product. The angels were with you on this one.

Yes I offered to send him the keys about three times. After he continued being rude I told him to buy his own keys and to “enjoy the bass”. Yet the belligerent insults continued.

I've heard of this happening if the buyer is an obvious tire-kicker and scammer. Justice is served.

I use eBay fairly regularly (100% positives over 1,561 transactions) but mostly as a buyer. That way I can vet sellers, avoid the purchase if it feels wrong, and I am consistently happy with the results. I think in 20 years I've filed maybe two complaints, and they were very obviously the seller's bad and quickly resolved in my favor with no drama or butthurt.

But I'm about to unload a bunch of guitars and basses (around 80) as I prepare to retire and move to a much smaller home. I may use eBay for a few rare and valuable axes that have appreciated significantly and will inspire a bidding war, but I won't be using it much beyond that. You'll probably see most of the basses for sale right here, and I'll use local consignment, CL, and Reverb for the guitars. Selling on eBay is a real crap shoot.

I totally agree. I admitted it was my fault and offered to send them to him despite him being rude. I couldn’t have forgiven myself to send him the keys after the last string of insults following my offer.

Oh yeah, I'm not taking up for him at all. At first I didn't realize that there was a tool kit included. I thought he wanted an allen wrench just because. So, now I'll only side with you 99.99%. Heh.

I only ever sell to stores for these reasons.

That said, I buy on the 'bog, and I've encountered scams (tube mic clearly in a flood, all rusted on the inside, other non-functioning electronics, blown speakers, etc.) and sellers getting the $ but not ever shipping, to plain old defective stuff (I buy a fair amount of pedals and electronic gear, sometimes receive non-functioning altho' it's sold as "used"). One time I bought a Distortion + came with the owner's name engraved, which he carefully and obviously didn't show in the pics ... then he told me it was "unique" and "the girls will love you on stage" - Ebay refunded.

Most of the time it gets resolved quickly, but the scams suck because I don't have the use of my money for about a month, which means I am delayed in getting a replacement if it was something I bought for a project.

The verbal abuse is amusing to me, but I'm used to it in my job ...

Worse experience was buying a nice guitar from England, 2 weeks late, buyer refunds because of CITES issue. OK, but you didn't know? Used my $ for 2 extra weeks even as I was asking them to contact their (unknown to me) shipper?

Yeah, be polite and professional, take before and after pics, be timely in reports and other communication.

Best experiences: here, then Reverb.

Aren't Sires pretty inexpensive? The guy makes it sound like he purchased some Alembic museum piece. I honestly wouldn't go through the hassle of selling instruments on eBay.

The heck with EBay and all the anonymous fools, time, and hassles associated with it. I long ago went back to surfing CL in a 150-mile radius with three good sized cities therein. I prefer the more instant gratification of face to face dealings to make the transaction and I have no problem breaking down to old-school street fightin' if need be.

Backstory:
I have used eBay for about 8 years activley buying and selling basses. I have a 277 preferred seller, 100% rating. I set up all of my own instruments and am fairly adept at doing so.

I posted a Marcus Miller V7 on eBay for a killer price. It was in great condition. I really wanted a shortscale bass because my body is not was it used to be.
A fellow from Chicago bought it. I immediately shipped out. The Saturday He received it I received a PM telling me my setup was terrible and I was stupid for not sending him the hex keys. (Honestly I had forgotten to send him the keys but I never said I’m the description it included hex keys). I, like most other people have a set of metric hex keys so I never utilized the ones send with it.
I let the buyer know I would send him the keys on Monday even though I probably shouldn’t have since he was so rude.
Next message; he asks if it has a warranty and makes a comment in the area of “I thought you were a good seller so I thought you would, but go figure”. (Really? I warranty from a used private seller? It didn’t have a warranty in the first place because I didn’t buy direct)Or something of that sort. I told him politely I thought he was rude and if he needed something he should ask people nicely.
He continued to go off and call me stupid, don’t know what I’m doing...etc.
I thought the funny thing was that he refrred to the setup of the G string as the “high B”.
At this point I’m like “this guy is something else”.
He threatened to file a return and a case because he didn’t have the proper .88 cent hex key. I told him I didn’t accept returns unless the bass was damaged and that he could not return it because he didn’t like my set up.

Side note: I prefer low action. But as most people know, some jazz style bridge saddles tend to slide down a little bit on occasion.
I told him I wasn’t going get into an argument with him because I thought he was a kid.
I would’ve swore it was an entitled rude kid. He got angry and said he was 58 and that I was probably a kid.
After all of this, me being the humble seller I am, I would still send him the key I used. From there he told me to “shove the keys up my a**” and kept calling me a “monkey boy”. (I know right??)
I told him sounds like a sad human being and to get his own keys and to enjoy the bass. He continued with more messages telling call me a “broke b****” and that he would let all of eBay know what a “goofy f***” I was.
At this point I don’t care. About five days later I see a return request on my eBay dashboard and a negative review left on my profile. The reason for the negative review was to the tune of “he said it was set up and I didn’t like his set up”.
Really dude?
Then for his return he said “I was just changing the string and noticed that the tuning post was bent”.
EERRRRKK.. hold on. You “just noticed the tubing post was bent”? Like that’s some little detail.
The bass was 100% perfect when It left and he commented on how everything else looked okay.
It’s painfully obvious that the dude purposely bent the tuning post to try and get me to return on it.
What an absolute psycho.
I called eBay and got it resolved. They saw the threatening messages and what a nutcase this guy is. Removed the negative review and resolved the case. The guy I spoke to was very generous. I will include the pictures that this absolute moron sent of the tuning post he bent on purpose.
I honesty think it’s hilarious and karma takes care of people.
I have rarely had any problems with anyone on eBay but this dude, this dude takes the all out gold cup for biggest idiot on eBay. Let me know your thoughts everyone. Cheers.

Dude, I hate to say it but... looking at your own photos on your completed listing, it does appear that the G string tuner is bent. It's not in the same orientation as the buyer's photo, but it does look bent to me.

You seem to have gotten over on this one.

Dude, I hate to say it but... looking at your own photos on your completed listing, it does appear that the G string tuner is bent. It's not in the same orientation as the buyer's photo, but it does look bent to me.

When I had the bass the tuner wasn’t bent. It does looks strange from the orientation of the picture and angle of the tuner. In his pictures the tuner is bent inwards into the D tuner.

The tuner is just not in the same orientation now, it has been turned between the times you and he took the respective pictures.

You bought it used, right? Perhaps it was already bent and you just didn't notice. That is believable to me...it's not bent that much, but I am afraid it is bent in your picture.

You are joking right? The tuning key turns 'round when you tighten or loosen it. You cannot assume that it hadn't been turned after the seller took his pictures.
