Ebay Restricted item?

Speculation that is proven right by pure happenstance is still speculation. ;) And since several members pointed out the CITES issue on the first page, it would seem that both our posts were superfluous with the benefit of hindsight.

The real lesson is, that it was not cites, or stickers or any of the remotely "good reasons" tossed around here or told from eBay. It was unprofessional workers trying to cover mistakes. Judging a material NOT listed in the cites as one is a mistake. Clearly they don't know what they are doing and cannot be trusted.

Yes ... so the lesson to be learned here is don't ever ship a bass with ebay's global shipping program ...

You are doing yeoman's work!! From what I have read here and in the Sticky thread, I say that CITES and the bureaucrats involved can all piss up a rope, for all I care.

This has happened to me in Hawaii. Even for small items like effect pedals. I have tried to explain to some of them that a prepaid flat rate box costs the same to Hawaii as it does to any other state and most still won't sell to me. Very annoying.

I understand that U.S. Customs can seize restricted items they come upon and their is a process of notification. I don' see how a private shipping firm has the legal right to seize property and "liquidate" it. It would seem that the most they can do is either surrender it as contraband to Customs or refuse to ship it. If it were my $2,000 bass I would be on the phone with Customs.

Could be wrong, but last I knew, "innocent until proven guilty" and "the right to address your accuser", neither of which observed here.

Customs now adopting IRS rules regarding "guilty until proven innocent"?

Seems like a crap raw deal to me Jeff and I certainly wouldnt be happy about it. I bought my Ric 4003 earlier this year from Bass Centre here in Australia. They only had 2 on a back order because that's as many as Rickenbacker US were prepared to ship here in one shipment. The bass took quite a long 3 months to get to me because of this CITES regulation rule and I presume that was because some bozo in customs saw the rosewood mentioned in the fretboard and that delayed delivery even though all paperwork was done correctly by Bass Centre which is a very reliable well known Aussie business. I feel for you Jeff. It just seems so darn wrong to me. What sort of Bear was it anyway..probably a Koala...they sleep 20 hours a day and when they wake up all they do is pee. Anyway all the best to you and your further transactions. New Wa*k Order I reckon.

you should have ordered a 4003sw ... all maple and walnut ... no rosewood
