Someone asked me on reverb to ship a 2010 rickenbacker to them in Russia. I'm all for international shipping but with CITES and not knowing what exact species of rosewood can't be shipped I just declined. Unless a bass has a clearly maple neck and fretboard I'm not shipping international anymore, bummer. Hope they get the bass back speedy

Ask bear why it wouldn't be easier for everyone involved if they looked at the ad, saw it was a restricted item (which of course in this case it is not) and just refused to do global shipping on it BEFORE you shipped it out.

This is worth getting a posse together for.

For one: there are no CITES listed or protected woods on that bass.

Two: since the bass is still in the US ebay can legally return it to the seller.

Three: liquidate? Yeah, right! Right into Bear's home it will go.

I stopped using ebay and Paypall long ago, after they screwed up payment on things, I won.
It has nothing to do with wood or guitars. It is by the principle of dealing with seller not idiotic computer system they were updating all the time and changing conditions on daily basis, bla, bla, bla.... I am done with them, as well as several other companies and businesses. I know my absence from their market would not matter to them. But, if everyone takes right stand, they will be out of business.
I haven't try to do business with Alibaba. But, based on what I've heard, they don't give damn who sells or buys what. Future belongs to Chinese - no copyrights no crap.

Though, for overseas, I'd prefer USPS - because FedEx has the bad habit of declaring the parcel at customs, paying taxes and toll without asking the customer, and finally demanding a fee from the customer for handling all that stuff without even having been asked to do so - and without handing over a proper recipe / import bill. Too mafiaesque for my taste. USPS was straightforward; handed it over to customs, customs would notify me, I'd go to customs, pay only taxes and toll, get a formal recipe and import bill - and everything's done properly. Happy as can.

That, by the way, is also an issue with the "Global Shipping Program" of ebay - you wouldn't get a proper import bill and might get into trouble having an imported bass without a proper import bill. Just saying; can be problematic for the customer.

I suppose if one wants to assume that an actual response from an actual question on an actual rejected sale is irrational or "made up". To me, the reason given for an actual rejection would seem to trump the hypothetical answer given by a random CS rep.

As you can now see, it had NOTHING to do with how the box was marked. As I'd stated, and most importantly per simple common sense.

So much for "hypothetical". My own personal experience, which I cited, wasn't hypothetical.

I'd also added value by subsequently clarifying that it had NOTHING to do the brand of manufacture, or some other points of total conjecture people were purporting or even stating as fact, while your unnecessary snark added nothing.
