EBMM Gamechanger??

I don't think it takes anything away from you. It gives you more control if anything.

From what I gathered by looking at the schematic, is that it basically allows you to dictate what is controlled, which rules. If I can tell my 5 way switch exactly what combos I want, that's sweeeeeeeeet. In essence & theory, these would/could become the most versatile bass out there with the option to get any pup config/sounds you're looking for.

Cool...that and given NAMM is here...I'm sure we'll be hearing more about this, very shortly. I'm real intrigued by this. This looks pretty cool. Wonder if it's going to be an option you can add to any instrument, or just on the Reflex models.

On the EB forums they said it would stay on the Reflex for awhile before it migrated to any other models. The HH Reflex is really a badass bass, my favorite double humbucker bass I've played, being able to choose which setting where easily accessible instead of what MM decides I should have is something that is very interesting to me.

You've got it.

I'll be at NAMM tomorrow (Friday) and will finally get my hands on this thing.

Am I excited? Is Lou Ferrigno ugly?

I don't see what good this is given the variances in every room, mix, amp/cabs, and placement of cabs.

Someone above said that bassists aren't the most progressive bunch so may not take to this. I'd argue that's irrelevant since this is in no way progressive or useful.

My only interest in this is to avoid it.

Well, you're right, in a way. There are plenty of bassists out there that like 1 pup, and 1 pup only. BUT there are plenty of bassists out there, like myself, that like variety and versatility. But, I disagree with your statement about rooms...that's like saying P basses are ONLY good in rooms with certain dimensions, and J basses are the best in certain rooms...etc etc. I think that comes down to your amp more than anything, and AFAIK, your amp won't do what this system can do with your tone.

With this new system, it looks like you can dial in your ideal pup configurations with a couple mouse clicks. Obviously you have to like the EB style & sound, as they're just emulating the classics. But, for me, in looking to have 1 bass that has a bunch of options as far as the tones I want. I'm stoked. Give it to me.

OK, I understand the idea a bit better now. To me it's still on par with a Variax and as displeasing as the looks of a Bongo. I'd be embarassed to show up to a gig with either.

Like you said, to each his own. As for me, I've played pro in a variety of styles for many years and neither I nor any other pro I know has ever needed anything like this and I believe never will.

If people want to mess around with iPhones and endless knob-twiddling, that's perfectly fine of course. It's just my opinion and I'd rather spend that time practicing or sleeping.

By the way, let me be another to commend you for your efforts regarding the GC/Ritter mystery. Did that ever get resolved? No one here is owed an answer, I realize, but I'm among many that would like to know if they should worry about GC or Ritter's credibility in such matters.

Haha, that damn Bongo looks like it'll cut you. I see what you're saying though, and it's a valid point. I hope you don't need an iPhone for this, because I'm not buyin that crap(the iphone).

As far as that Ritter goes, thanks. AFAIK, that store sold it, under what terms I don't know. They did what they wanted to do, and so far, it hasn't been returned. I just hope to see it returned and in the ticket remarks "Bass was fake". That would make my year.

I get not liking the looks, though eventually this should be available on more than just the Reflex.

Other than maybe the hype factor, the Variax comparison falls a little flat though. The Variax was basically a "decent" but not great digital emulator, while this system is a pure analog sound, not synthetic.

Of course nobody needs it, nobody needs anything more than a Pbass, but for some reason people continue to buy and play all sorts of other basses regardless.

That thread was started back in 09...anybody actually play/own one of these? did they even make it to the market? I feel like I haven't heard anything about these at all....maybe I missed something?

That is because they released it today at NAMM. Due to legal reason theya could not be faster, but this plain and simply rocks. You get a phat toolbox of sounds right from your bass.

Great. So feel free to move on...

I think the possibility to have a neck humbucker in series wired with an out of phase single coil in the bridge is an revolutionary idea. This thing will make it a lot easier to develop a signature sound or be on the spot in every recording situation. And it can be used passive too.

while this system is a pure analog sound, not synthetic.

Bingo...Thats the core of why this is great. IMHO

I do see folks that could benefit from using different sounds really getting into this from Joe weekend warrior top 40 guy to studio ace.

I thought Lou was a good looking guy (in a purely straight, not interested in him way).

Give us your thoughts! One question I have is if the batteries are completely dead can you switch to the passive unbuffered jack and still be "alive"?
