i don't think Jim C is bashing them at all, but rather just pointing out the fact that they're generally heavy basses, and i completely agree with that. (BTW, he owns an EBMM ray).

I think it's a very cool idea. Don't think it will completely be able to copy the tones of other instruments but I don't think that's really the point; the point is that you can access a massive variety of tones from one instrument easily and customize the sound you get out of the bass. For me, I wanted a Reflex and I thought The Game Changer was cool enough that I ordered the Game Changer installed Reflex. I'm really looking forward to messing around with it.

I do not fear additional options, especially when the implementation of said additional options is discrete. Price will be a matter I can deal with later.

Also, POD/Boss and such, as mentioned earlier in this thread, model preamps, not pickups. A cool thing about this is that you are changing the tone at the source, and you are not utilizing anything other than the electronics already present in the bass to do so. Just a mechanical relay.

"Gamechanger" is just a marketing buzzword. I see a lot of them, as do all of us, so I ignore it and view the concept itself. I do not judge something by whether or not it is overrated, but by its value to me directly.

The way "TGC" is implemented would not stand in the way of my playing music. It would only open up new tonal possibilities, and therefore potentially new inspirations for me. This is especially true since I utilize distortion and effects in the music I play; if I were strictly a clean player, I would probably not have as much use for it. I can dig it.

I've been wondering if anyone's got one. I'd be interested to hear some TBers real-life experiences with it. I thought that over time I'd get used to the iconic MM headstock with those pi55y little tuners, but alas, no. Though I hadn't realised that the headstock was smaller way back when I originally asked the question. Now I have to add that, upon closer inspection, the headstock looks too stubby as well.

I like the body shape and the look of the white with the black binding and controls. Kinda looks like an iBass or something.

I also think that I'd have been more excited about this whole game before I bought my passive P last year and fell hard for the batteryless zen of it. Now I'm all about passive basses again.

Any further news on when this will be released? Even the EBMM forums seem to have gone quiet on the info and there are no release dates on the Gamechanger website that I can find. As best I can tell though, some artists appear to have been using them (testing?) for a while.

I actually just spoke with Music Man yesterday about the Game Changer. You can still place your orders for them at places like Bass Central or The Perfect Bass but they guestimated time of arrival on them is the early part on 2012. But the guy that I talked to also said any orders being placed right now also won't even ship until at least January because I also asked about a Big Al 4SSS.

Update for anyone who's interested; the current release date is March 2012, in fact I read somewhere that March 16th is supposed to be the exact date the first bunch leave the factory. And there are some new features they just announced at NAMM 2012, but they haven't had any full press releases/videos on the new feature so there is still some speculation.

For instance now you can apparently completely re-wire the instrument, including the jacks, and I read something about mono/stereo, so my guess is that it's kinds like Ricks where you can have say the neck pick-up output jack 1 and simultaneously the bridge pick-up output to jack 2 (as of the last photos the Game-Changers have two output jacks).

Also there is now complete MIDI in/out integration, so you could have a foot controller where stomping on certain buttons would cue up a wiring preset. As far as MIDI out apparently you can now use the instrument itself to send MIDI messages, so you could program it so that when you hit a certain switch it'd maybe change the lights on stage or cue a sound sample or something like that. Not sure exactly how that works, also don't know if there are now actual 5-pin MIDI jacks on the instruments themselves. Like I said they haven't fully announced this stuff yet with any new photos or videos so we'll have to wait and see.

I heard about this as well. My feelings are that an overly complex bass just got even more complex. Maybe there are people that wants 5000 slightly different tones to weed through but it's definitely not for me. I am a simple simple person.

I just had a Fender Dlxe J 5er modded to make it completely passive, pickups hardwired full on in series, tone dimed with just a single volume knob. I guess the game changer just isn't my thing :-)
