EBMM Gamechanger??

I'm excited to see all the new features added and can't wait to see the videos on them when they come out. BP did confirm the March release and the new extra goodies added. Not sure I'll get one right away simply because there is no new bass money in my budget this year but I am hoping to do something next year.

I'm curious about this.

I like the idea, but as much as I love being able to tweak knobs and settings galore, I find myself sticking to the same handful of sounds for the vast majority of my playing. On my Ray5, I rarely set it to anything besides the bass and treble slightly boosted.

I'm a tone weaker, for sure!. As such, this bass concept intrigues me. But,.. truth be told, I like different basses for different sounds as well as the fact that different basses ergonomics & vibes inspire you to play differently. I'm still open minded though, I'd love to put a game changer through its paces for a while!

For me I don't think I'm going to be using thousands of different tones, it's more about getting more interesting tones that you wouldn't be able to get out of a normal bass (one of the out of phase tones they had in one of the videos got me really excited for this).

Fair enough. The good thing is that, provided you like the feel and playibility of the instrument itself, you'd be unlikely to mod it as the sound possibilities are virtually endless. For those trying to find that "elusive" sound, you probably wouldn't need to change basses; just experiment more!

You are never going to be able to make a two pickup Musicman bass sound like a Precision or Jazz bass or any number of other basses, irregardless of the Gamechanger system. It's a matter of pickup type and placement, and all of the "rewiring" in the world is not going to compensate!

Yeah but the idea isn't to imitate other basses but just to fully unlock the potential of one.

My comment was in response to the post that suggested it would not be necessary to change basses to find certain tones if one is using the Gamechanger system, and my position is that it will still be necessary to change basses to get a P bass sound, a J bass sound, a Ric, etc... I'm not sure how this totally unlocks the potential of a bass either, as the pickup type and location are static and can not be changed.

It is going to be a tweakers paradise :) The current two pickup MM basses (with one coil from each pickup activated) do not sound too much like a Jazz bass, so I doubt the Gamechanger is going to help with that. I suspect this will be a niche device that a few people are really going to love.

As far as MIDI out apparently you can now use the instrument itself to send MIDI messages, so you could program it so that when you hit a certain switch it'd maybe change the lights on stage or cue a sound sample or something like that.

Wow, can't believe after all that they haven't even shipped 'em yet!

I'd say they got it right in 2010 with the Classics. ;)
