EBMM price - ouch!

Possibly but not over this thread or your current decision. I was talking about the 19mm Stingray V debacle.

There was famous incident where TBers whined about a lack of a 19mm Stingray V. Sterling, who is known for "knowing" what his customers want as opposed to listening to them, decided to hear them out. He put out a one-month window for people to pony up for a Stingray V with 19mm spacing. I think one or two people signed up. I beleive they needed 30 or so but I am not positive on the number, only the poor turnout. Long story short, people were not about to put their money where their mouth was.

Uhh...don't think so. Just the other day I saw him and Leo Fender hanging out at the grand opening of a new hambuger place called 'Mac Donalds' or something. Or maybe that was 75 years ago I saw them, I don't really remember. It was around the time of President Edison's 4th term though.

I remember it well, but believe it went down slightly different. You don't send money to someone flipping you the bird.

I remember being interested in buying a Fender Mark Hoppus bass, and I remember them being about $650.

Then, suddenly, they were about $900, and I remember saying to myself, "I'm not paying $900 for a simple, passive one pickup bass," and never bought one.

When the Hoppus came out the big thing was that Mark Hoppus didn't even understand the knobs on a standard P. The increase they threw at those was really a pretty bold move. I dont want to hear " I lack tonal and technical awareness" and then say hey here's my signature model and then say hey heres the same model but with more pricy-ness. Yeah no.

A stingray is 4x the bass a rick is by mass, tonally they're pretty equal. You know its a rick, and you know its a 'ray, just as sure as you know its a strat or a LP. I cant justify a 2K rick or ray though. We're close though at 2k, just can't go over it (cause im shopping deals at this price)

Glad I snapped my Caprice for 1300 USD last year (mint), I could not justify to pay > 2000 USD for it even though I absolutely LOVE that instrument.

Wait...does this mean this price increase also gave value to my Big Al? (1400 USD new, that was a bargain now that I think of it)

I agree, and always have regarding Rics and their prices.

I've always wanted to buy a Ric, and always thought they were very good instruments, but never thought they were worth the money they were demanding, and this goes back 40 years. To me, they were the highest-priced production bass; after Rics, you were in custom territory.

Is Blackbird still here?

I remember there was a thread similar to this years ago, about either a bass or something else going up astronomically in price, and he used Cutty Sark scotch as an example.

Years ago, it was considered to be a so-so whiskey, but Cutty Sark kept raising their prices steadily, until it was priced about the same as the "better" scotches, and then people considered it a better scotch.

We all know Ernie Ball instruments are among the best mass-produced, but perhaps they want to create a new category?
