You could buy 1 of the available aqua sparkles and then buy a slo special and swap the necks.

After successfully selling off some surplus gear I spotted this almost new beauty had popped up on eBay. The seller quickly dropped the price after a just a couple of days, so guessing he was in a hurry to sell I made a sensible offer and it’s now hanging on my wall.

Exactly! Or you could just go for the Smoked Chrome if you happen to like that finish and then you get the neck you want at least. Looks like all of the rest of the bass would be identical in terms of pickup configuration and hardware. The aqua sparkle is very cool though so I would understand if you wouldn't want to sacrifice that.
If you were to get the smoked chrome, you'd have 1 of 5 available so thats kinda cool too.

The color combination is fantastic. Had the same one that I flipped as I'm not investing in 4 strings anymore but...gosh I miss it!
In other news, I currently have 2 fretted SR Specials, 1 with a roasted maple fb and one with an ebony fretboard. I have just ordered a special with a rosewood fb so I'm looking forward to seeing the differences in the 3. Not sure what I'm going to do for strings for each of them as I'd like it to be varied a bit to give some different tones. My current plan is to have rounds on my maple fb, black tapewounds on the ebony fb, and then I'm thinking I might do heavy rounds on the rosewood and set it up for some downtuned playing. Maybe DGDF tuning.

In chopper blue and single H. But there is a certain aesthetic of the 4 strings and double humbucker...and this thing was playing...GREAT!

Nice, I still have my first EBMM pictured in my avatar which is a SR5 with the single H but my 2 fretted Specials are both HH which I really like. I've considered getting a HH Special to add to the collection since I don't have a 5 string with that pickup configuration.

Guess I'm in... finally. I've wanted an HH since they first came out, but... like most basses I've wanted over the years - no lefties for me. So, when a little birdie told me EBMM was making a run of them, I managed to snag this beauty. The round wound Slinkys will have to go - eventually - but I'm a happy camper now...

Does anyone use a Helix with their SRS? I've been using a Rumble 40 at home and I kind of want to upgrade, It's a big plus to have the option of using it with my guitars as well and the Helix looks surprisingly flexible. I can just hook it up to my interface/monitors/headphones at home and I can easily bring it with me to play with other people. Thoughts? Should I just get a class D amp + cab?
I play mine through a Fractal and a Xitone powered wedge. There’s several bass amps available and they all sound great. I’m sure you’d enjoy the Helix.
I don’t play out so I’m not sure how dialing in your sound on headphones will translate to the PA.

I’m not primarily playing EBMM anymore, but I do still have an old SR5 USA SUB bass (live I’ve been using a jazz or a PJ; I play the SR5 here and there).
I’ve transitioned from using an Ampeg/Bergantino rig to using an HX Stomp running the Ampeg SVT amp sim and an aftermarket Ampeg 810 cab IR, into a REDDI. I couldn’t be happier with the results as I’ve been able to experiment with little things here and there that I wouldn’t have been able to do without buying more gear. And, for my ears, it’s a very good and convincing simulation of the Ampeg sound I love, without all the hassles of carrying that type of rig around.
Since we’re IEM 100% of the time and always have adequate FOH, it was an easy transition not needing to worry about needing a cab. Our guitarist even switched to using the bigger Helix floor unit and is ampless, too.
I’d say go for it, they’re an awesome piece of gear IME.
Sweet, thanks for that! Now I’m just trying to see how much Helix I need. I can go for a Pod Go or go up to a Helix LT. I will research more on what I need. I mean it’s cool that the bigger Helix can split the signal, I like that part of it. But the Pod Go is like half the price.
Just wanted to give a string report. I had standard slinkys on my 5H Special but I wanted to experiment.
I tried GHS boomers and I couldn’t get used to the tone or feel. The GHS B string had a “warble” in it that no amount of setup would make go away. Even though it was 130, it felt much fatter and the strings had a “plastic” feel.
Next I tried DR nickel lo-riders with a 125 B. The tone was a little better and the feel was good, but the B was still muddy and hollow. Better than the GHS though.
I gave up and put the cheap green package slinkys back on and it was like a new bass! My tone was back, and my B was full and intonated well.
YMMV of course, but I think I’m gonna keep slinkys on this Ray. To me it just feels like the pickup, and preamp are just dialed in for those strings.

On the topic of strings, I think the stock Slinkies are a good match for the 4-string HH. They have a bell-like quality that is quite pleasant, but that I wanted to tame a little bit, so I tried some DR Black Beauties (coated stainless steel rounds). They work pretty well! But the set I had was such a light gauge that the action dropped a little too much into fret rattle land, so I'm gently letting the tension back out of the truss rod.
The string coating also tames some of the clickiness of the stainless steel frets. I've never had SS frets before, and the difference is pretty noticeable. But once I get the action right again and get used to the frets, I might go back to uncoated strings to get the fret brightness back. We'll see.
