I'm with you on Sunbeams, die too quickly and super happy with the resulting tone. I tried Pure Blues and I absolutely hate them, like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. Granted, I did not try them on the SRS5, I have them on a Sandberg TM5. I do like the Cobalt rounds, but I have not tried them on the SRS5 yet - I have them on an MTD 534 and they are glorious on that bass. I put Cobalt flats on the SRS5 and I'm still getting used to them. I'll report back in a week or so.

I have a weird relationship with the Pure Blues. Depending on the bass I either love or hate them. So I get you.

Which is why I need to try them on every bass. If all else fails Hi Beams will sound great I'm sure. Just prefer the feel of nickel slightly

Agreed, I like the tone of SS strings but like the feel of Nickel (and round core). My go-to used to be DR Fat Beams, but really wanted to go back to nickel strings. I used to use D'Addario XL, I also have an experiment going with D'Addario XT strings on yet another bass LOL. String experiments are expensive.

Maybe give the nickel Low Riders a go. They’ve been my go to rounds for a while. They sound great on Rays too. The PBs I just installed on the Sterling are the first set I’ve tried and I like them a lot, I’ll see how long they last.

I used to use nickel low riders on an Ibanez ATK. They sounded great but the tension was a little higher than I like.

Just me being picky.

Truth is all the strings I've tried on the Special have sounded great, just looking for my perfect fit of feel, sound, and longevity.

Yea the tension is a little high on the NLRs , and I wasn’t sure I liked them at first, but I got used to them. Back when I was gigging 12+ gigs a month I loved how long they lasted and haven’t felt the need to try something different. Well until I got the Sterling LOL. Come to think of it I remember the GHS Pressurewounds were a nice match as well.

I prefer the Sterling 4 to the Ray 4 ergonomics. Series vs parallel is hard to decide. Sometimes I like the extra oomph of series and sometimes I like the clarity and crispness of parallel.

I have a SRS5 H (series and parallel) HH (parallel only) as well as a Sterling 4 HH (series only) which gives me all those options.

Here's my newly acquired SRS 5HH in burst. It weighs, and this is not a typo, 7lbs 14oz. Perfectly balanced, too. I moved my charcoal sparkle one because I never really bonded with it and my aqua sparkle SRS 5H is for sale in the emporium. This burst one is that good. BTW, I Dartified the back pup, which I used 90% of the time. Using it as a quasi-ramp, and it works just fine.

Ha! It's the first fretless of many tried that I've bonded with. Sounds great, especially in single-coil mode, and I can play it in tune, mostly. It's an EBMM Sterling 5H and a previous owner had the good sense to install hipshot tuners, which reduced the weight by 5oz or and eliminated neck dive that I've experienced with other Sterling 5s.
