I'd be more worried about neck dive personally. I don't think I've ever played a 5 lighter than 8.5 lbs

So since I’ve had my special, it’s only wore Sunbeams…except for a brief flirtation with Slinky’s which I didn’t like. I wanted something a tad more aggressive(see previous post), someone suggested Fat Beams, which have been on my list to try anyway. Man do these really sound good on the specials, tight thick lows and sparkly top and midrange punch. About the same tension as Sunbeams, but not as smooth in feel or tone…may have found my new strings for this bass.

I recently put Fat Beams (45-105) on my '75 Precision Bass, so it wouldn't be a fair comparison. But, on that very bass, they changed it from night to day (in positive). They sound fuller yet defined, with the ideal tension (for my tastes) and correct volume balance from string to string.

And, yesterday, my Special 5H got a fresh set of Lo Riders. Gents (and Ladies, too), what a giant leap from nickel slinkys. Still have to play 'em a bit, but I'm really liking the things.

I find Lo Riders to work VERY well on my Stingrays. I prefer the warmer tone of the nickels so that's what I use, but the stainless steels are excellent as well if you prefer that brighter tone.

They're also a relatively stiff feeling string. I know that turns some people off, but I love their stiffer feel. For those who like their sound but not their feel, I found the Sunbeams to sound very similar to the nickels but their round core construction gives them a much more flexible feel. I've never tried Hi Beams, but I suspect they'd sound much like the stainless steels but with a more flexible feel

Lo Riders are my favorite strings overall. I loved their sound on every bass I've ever tried them on.

I'd say trade value is about right (~1800). I don't know much about Lakland value to say if that's a good trade for you though.

I guess all depends on what an individual is willing to agree on investing. Actually have more invested in Lakland and the Sterling to be offering or accepting the trade.

I wouldn’t do that trade. That doesn’t look like the right bridge or the correct finish. Burnt apple has more sparkle .
It’s subtle but still more sparkle than what I’m seeing .

Nothing written on the headstock but you can tell the Special by the battery box (18 v vs 9v on old Stingray), as well as contoured heel. Additionally the 4 string specials have 22 frets now. A pic of the back of the body will tell you right away. But this is definitely the old bridge so not a Special unless he swapped it

just browsing, I saw there is a SRS 4H on reverb right now for $1500, with the option of making an offer... someone must have GAS, or really need the cash
