I'm a fan of tort in general, but that particular color of it would be a pass for me on that bass.

I kind of like it. However, I think it would look better on a 3 tone sunburst (I'm guessing that's a tobacco burst, but maybe the pickguard is covering the yellow?).
On a 3TSB with a maple fretboard would be even better.

Just put on a clear guard with the screws to fill in the holes and bingo !! Perfection!!
If I do that I will have to send off the original pickguard to whomever will make it because apparently mine is a bit off
Try QuickGuards. He is my local guy and does great work. He will get your guard back to you .
In the mean time you can use the girds you have until then. Or go guard less for a while.

that's very tempting, I been debating selling my American pro 5 string P bass. I think ive come to accept that I am a stingray 5 guy. a aqua sparkle 5 H would complement my charcoal sparkle 5 HH.... hmmm....

That's one of the lightest SR 5 I've seen for sure.
I love my Aqua Sparkle 5H. Mine is just under 9 lbs
I love my charcoal sparkle 5 HH - its been my player for 3-4 years now and I have no idea what it weighs.
I tried to revisit the P again and played it for a couple weeks but... the stingray is just so comfortable and feels like home.
I feel the same, I like having other basses around for an occasional flavor change but the Stingray is just so comfy and sounds so good
That's too light imo! I will bet anything that it lacks heft to the tone!

I'd be more worried about neck dive personally. I don't think I've ever played a 5 lighter than 8.5 lbs
I wouldn't be worried about any of those issues, the Stingray's are always well balanced and weight has really nothing to do with tone quality (my Gould GGi5 at 7.9lbs has not shortage in the sound department!)

I would agree on a passive bass, but the active preamp on the Stingray overcomes that, and than some, imo. I have a boat anchor 1977 Jazz, and an 86 MIJ Jazz that’s like 8 lbs at most. Although to heavy to really play live, the 77 just has an overall better sound. So I play my Special now, lightweight and has the punch and hefty tone of a much heavier bass.
My Stingray Special 5HH is 8.3 pounds, more than pound lighter than my 2007 alnico SR5HH, which is about 9.5 pounds. Neither lacks heft.
My L-2500, which weighs 10.5 pounds, definitely has heft. Yet both of my Stingrays out-heft even that one.
