Okay, now that I'm in the club, I went from a 5h to an HH, and I'm just blown away by the tone combos. Only messed around with it a bit, but apart from position 5 (the classic), I really like that position 2 with the inner one of each pickup.

Curious, what do you HH users think of the different tones? What do you use them for? Any you particularly like or don't like? Nice to know I can now get a nice reggae tone if I need it. Still trying to figure out which is the best for old school jazz, but I guess I'm gonna have to do some real-world testing first.

I don’t use the neck pickup solo very much. Same with the 2 outer coils. But the rest get plenty of use.
I just recently found out about secret settings in between the switch positions. I like these a lot. Thanks @Todd Hamby .

I see you found your way over . This latest run from EBMM has been outstanding !!! The finishes and the weights are spectacular . This was my 2nd favorite new finish after my purple sunset. I think these are the best burst I’ve ever seen.

Like I said in your NBD thread, welcome to the club!

If I'm not mistaken, the pickup switch positions go from 1 (bridge) to 5 (neck), so the inner coils position is #4. I'm a very outspoken fan of the inner coils position. I honestly love all five and I use them all, but my preference for them changes all the time. The one constant is that I love position #4 best. That's been my clear favorite on all three of my Stingrays.

I've been using #2, outer coils, more often lately. I'm also a Jazz fan and currently have two different Jazz basses in my collection, and I find #2 to be somewhat Jazz like with both volume knobs on full. But having a mid control helps me counter the inherent scoopiness (is that a word?) of a Jazz with both voulmes all the way up, so that #2 becomes even more useful, for me anyway.

Looking forward to hearing your longer term impressions of the switch settings.

That is such a great looking bass. I personally lean towards more flashy finishes but I do have a soft spot for some wood grain. I really like the Burnt Ends and Hot Honey finishes. What's the clear coat like on that one? Is it glossy or satin? The pics look like its got some gloss to it but maybe not as much as other basses.

I've always been a wood finish guy. All of my other basses are natural wood topped with satin or oil finish. This and the 5h I just sold are the only gloss finish basses I have.

I think if I was more of a rocker or showman type of guy, I'd definitely go for one of the sparkle finishes. They look amazing.

Actually, the purple sunset color was going to be my second choice...one of the more understated colors, but this Hot Honey one just kept getting all of my attention.

Thanks. I still can't believe I found a 5HH that is 8lbs 2 Oz. After playing all of my other 'logs', I can't believe a bass could be this light.

Was interesting slapping and going through the positions. Lots of variation. I don't really slap much but it really brought out the differences.

Hadn't had much time to play today, but I'm about to settle in with it for a bit.

I mostly hang with position 4 (inner coils). I think it’s the beefiest option and fills the most sonic space for the three-piece bands I’m in. Next is position 1, bridge. That’s StingRay. It’s cuts through the mix. I also like some StingRay5 H in series series. Just lovely.

I would like if someone can explain why a new Stingray Retro '70s is 400 USD/EUR more expensive than a new Stingray Special? If they produce them the "old" way, shouldn't they be cheaper than new ones with all the modern materials and features?

Nostalgia !! People will pay for it. This is why Fenders are so popular. ( It’s not because of their new designs ).
People always want what they can’t have . They are cheaper than real vintage examples. This about sums it up I think. Did I miss anything ?

This. In addition, I would guess smaller production lots contribute to the higher price.

But bottom line, it’s what EBMM calculated the market would bear. And it looks like they got it right.

I tried this, but I found the hum was too loud for it to be useful for me. I wish someone would make an 8 position switch, though.

I'd say Stellartone - 'bass long ten' i think will fit a MM.
I had one for my G&L LB100 - it was amazing.
