Dadgum that is a beauty too. Somehow I missed that it has gold fleck in it.
I can’t believe that I’m saying this, but I’d like that even more if the metallic/flake/sparkle was less subtle than it is.
Still pretty, though!
And Gluvhand called it. It’s the white layer visible.
These purple shorties were equipped with a white pearloid guard. I asked the factory if they would ship with black and they obliged. Also sent along the white should I ever want to swap it out. There was no plastic when I received it.
I never paid attention until this thread and subsequently have taken a black sharpie to the inner hole.
Any of you Special players use Jam Pedal Red Muck Bass Fuzz Pedal? It's great with my Jazz Basses 5H it's kinda blah. It's new to me so I'll be putting it through the paces on the 4HH.
Almost sorry I mentioned it, it never bothered you until I said something. I'm also a photographer so I notice stuff like that. Odd that on my EB black pick guard the white under layer doesn't show anywhere in the cutout area for the screws.
Haha. No worries. It actually didn’t bother me since it was not really noticeable unless you’re close up. But what the heck… easily remedied.

I just picked up a new HH (pic forthcoming). So, I am now among “the special.” I was looking seriously at an H, with those cool painted headstocks. In the end, I found that I wanted a maple fretboard and the all black hardware drew me away from the painted headstock models. I also rationalized the purchase because of the HH configuration - unlike anything else I own.
I too was wondering if there was a EQ diagram out there somewhere, as my ADHD P-bass brain gets easily frustrated. This is a bit like putting a Stingray in the hands of Dee Dee Ramone. But I will need to embrace “the journey.”

Finally getting around to this - am the very lucky new owner of the below HH in dropped copper. I got to try her out at a rehearsal last night and WOW, extremely impressed with the amount of oomph in the controls and how easy the neck plays.
I really missed played a 4 string and now I suddenly have the chops and fluency that I thought were gone. Got a double header this weekend and she will definitely be on stage with me!

Hot Honey is gorgeous as well. I too wasn't very fond of Gold hardware but the Jackpot is getting burnt into my mind as the perfect combo of bling and classic Stingray Black.

Even if you're a purist who prefers the H, and I get why people would, the HH adds so much versatility and all settings are very distinct and usable. I love my HH's!
You know, I always thought I was but this thing is great. Love positions 1 and 2 on the switch.

]The 4H Special has enough versatility in tones for my taste but mainly I like the way it looks with only 1 pickup
I have Hot Honey... actually think it was the first Hot Honey 5HH, because it's the one that's on the MM site for it. I absolutely love that color. My 5hh fretless coming from the custom shop is the first colored bass I've ever owned, as I've always been a natural wood tone/coffee table bass kinda guy.
