These are my « specials », even though the natural BFR isn’t really a special. Both BEAD, active blue w/flats, passive nat w/rounds.

Why do you say this isn't a Special ? It is a passive Special made with different woods. It is a BFR Special !!! I consider any StingRay made by EBMM with the new Neodeneum pickups , lighter weight, and lighter hardware to be a Special . I consider my Tim Commerford Short Scale Active to be a Special, just like all of the Short Scales.

I love the color with the ebony and matching head stock but I’m not completely sold on the white pickup covers yet.

I’ll figure it out when it gets here but does anyone know if the covers are potted to the pickup or if they just slide off and can be replaced?

Well, after seeing these great basses, I have to ask (being uninitiated to the Stingray world) -- what is BFR? I'm guessing it's not blood flow restriction.

Well the BFR models can be breath takingly beautiful ….. but it means Ball Family Reserve. These models have special figured woods that are kept in the family stash to be used only on limited runs and special additions . At least that’s the way that I understand it.

I should say a series of special runs. EBMM has done them for years in various styles and configurations.

Hey Stranger Danger they don’t slide off. They are glued on and with a hair dryer heated it up ever so gently it can be pulled off. If it’s an HH be careful because once you pull off the cover the magnets pull together and can pull apart the wiring. I know this from experience

So I posted a bunch of 4 string options on Friday asking which one people preferred... and Saturday I went to Bass Central and played a bunch. I've had a few 5HH specials and as good as they sounded I just never quite 100% bonded with how they played. Be that as it may I cannot deny the superior tone or high-quality B string. So I was really on the fence about whether to try another 5 or get the 4 since I am usually a Jazz bass guy. After taking a few 4's and a 5 for a spin this is the one that came home with me! Used, in mint condition, 8.9lbs. This guy is so easy to play! It's like a sports car compared to my Jazz bass. I put Fat Beams on it and could not be happier. Man, I have been sleeping on the 4HH Specials!

It's on the light side but I think the lighting makes it appear lighter.

It looks really good. I love maple fretboards but sometimes they can over roast the necks, and I don't like the look. yours looks amazing.

I loved the look of roasted maple necks that are as brown caramel as ....
