Special indeed! Santa didn’t disappoint this year – brand new StingRay Special 5HH in Purple Sunset. If this doesn’t cure my GAS, I think I’ll need to call a doctor. This one is just a hair over 8lbs and balances perfectly. I think I’m still in shock after wanting one of these for a while.Wishing my fellow StingRay fanciers a very "Special" Christmas!![]()
I just got a Purple Sunset 4HH, so I feel your excitement. Congrats!Special indeed! Santa didn’t disappoint this year – brand new StingRay Special 5HH in Purple Sunset. For a long time I loved DR Pure Blues, then switched to Dunlop Super Bright Nickels which I liked even better. But now I am all about the SIT Nickel Foundations, they last a long time tooWhat is everyone’s favourite stings that compliment the Special?
Either Ernie Ball Cobalt Rounds or DR Nickel Lo-Riders.What is everyone’s favourite stings that compliment the Special?
Certainly not everyone’s favorite by a long shot, but D’Addario Pro Steels are my go to’s on my Special 5H.What is everyone’s favourite stings that compliment the Special?
I've had Hi Beams on mine too and they sound great. For DR strings I actually preferred Hi Beams slightly over the Pure Blues for sound, but found the Pure Blues B string to sound betterI’m still looking for the perfect string to complement my Special. Tried EB regular slinky, EB Colbalts, EB Colbalt flats and just ordered some DR Highbeams. I love the highbeams on my Retro 70’s so hopefully on the Special as well.
Im a pure blues guy. What do you like better about the hi beams? Haven’t tried them in many yearsI've had Hi Beams on mine too and they sound great. For DR strings I actually preferred Hi Beams slightly over the Pure Blues for sound, but found the Pure Blues B string to sound better
Just personal preference, they stay livelier for longer (more highs and presence). But the Pure Blues B string is significantly better in terms of tension and definition up the neck. Hi Beams B string never intonate well for me (on 34 scale neck)Im a pure blues guy. What do you like better about the hi beams? Haven’t tried them in many years
That’s a decent amount of firepower for the living room!New to Stingrays, and beyond happy with this one : )View attachment 7108982
whoa! - you need such a phat stack to be heard over the carpet!New to Stingrays, and beyond happy with this one : )View attachment 7108982
I’m sure it helps with drowning out the neighbors, too!whoa! - you need such a phat stack to be heard over the carpet!
I swear by DR hi-beams on my old 2 band Stingray but I don’t like them as much on my Special, I’ve tried many but come back to plain old Daddario XL nickels (105-45) they just feel right.I’m still looking for the perfect string to complement my Special.
