Ernie Ball Music Man Short Scale Special.
The Ernie Ball Music Man Short Scale StingRay Special is a passive bass offering a big thumpy round sound in a convenient smaller package. The 30″ scale length allows for easier playability due to the shorter spacing between the frets. The body is made from ash, and the neck is constructed from hard rock maple with choice of maple or rosewood fingerboard. The Ernie Ball Music Man humbucking pickup has been specially designed for the short scale bass with higher output neodymium magnets, providing a warm signature tone. Electronics package includes a 3-way rotary switch featuring parallel, true single coil, and series modes. All three pickup selections can be augmented by a passive bass boost found by engaging a push volume pot. Like its big brother the Stingray Special, the short scale bass comes standard with a modern classic bridge, 22 stainless steel frets, and new lightweight Music Man tuning machines. Available in 2 finish options. Available September 2019 worldwide.

Passive!......That's great news this is a step up from the Special, I can't wait to try one of these and I am now glad I didn't purchase a Special model......Happy Days!

Larger question. Why does the Short Scale get a choice of fretboards but the full size doesnt?
Since when cant you choose your fretboard on a EB? I believe you can choose between at least 2 choices on all their models, except maybe the signature ones.
Oh don't get me wrong the Specials are nice, but they are just an updated design on the active Stingray. But a Passive Stingray is something that all Stingray lovers have wanted for years, and now it is finally here. Like I previously said I was close to buying a Special,so I am relieved to hear about this Bass. I had a feeling that something like this would come onto the market from EB after they discontinued their Cutlass and Caprice models. It took EB a long time to get round to producing a Passive Stingray which we have been asking for what seems to be an eternity so credit to them for listening and acting on it.

Also not exactly sure who we is. I can see you're happy but this is different not better. Passive is not something I look for in a Stingray. They make Fenders for that sound. I don't have any interest in these at all but I hope they make folks happy.
I can see a large number of Stingray admirers will sit up and be interested in these. To me they are just more appealing than the Special........To explain it I think the word is Passive!
