Double Bass EBS Stanley Clarke Acoustic Preamp

There's several things to factor in to the cost of the Grace Design's Felix. It doesn't require a "wall wart" for it's AC power, it's plug and play. Grace has a 5 Year Transferable Warranty, so if you wish to sell it within 5 years the warranty moves with

the owner. Grace is located in Colorado. There are no Vat charges for shipping. So if you're in the U.S. and Canada (?) it's less expensive to get repaired (granted this is a mote point, if you live outside North America) It boutique piece of gear that

some folks just cannot afford. We rarely see the Grace Felix for sale used in the U.S.

There have been two here on Talkbass that I can remember.

The routing flexibility seems to be the biggest advantage of Felix, I

Nice! Looks perfect for a pedal board.

Well, you’re right, it does make for a smaller device. If I used a pedal board, it would be a plus, call me weird but I’m a minimalist, which bucks current thinking. I have a Headway EDB-2, but as long as I don’t use a microphone, it will run on batteries. That way I can mount the Felix or Headway on a microphone stand, which puts the controls right at your fingertips. Just my preference.:)

It is also good for extensive touring. Any way to make your gear smaller and lighter is going to pay off in the future. I've gone completely minimal, to a scary degree. Small rig on stage, Aguilar, mic to house, pick up to amp. Or even just mic and pick up to house, monitor at my side away from any drums. I spent more time making sure my bass was balanced and less time trying to shape my sound with knobs. It terrifies some of my friends but I find it simple and perfectly fine.

Yeah I totally get it. I’m always looking for ways to minimize cause most of my playing is 20ish piece big bands and small stages. Space is at a premium.

I’m in a transitional phase right now cause I just picked up a Remic 5400LB so I’m re-evaluating my setup as I move from the Realist/Tone Dexter to the Remic.

always in a state of flux... and I’m always open to suggestion.

How do you do that? Do you use some kind of conversion kit?

The EDB-2 has a microphone mounting hole in the back of the box. You just put it on the stand. I do have a little camera joint that let's me angle it. I

don't know if the new Headway EDB-2 H.E. has that hole or not. The Grace Felix has screw holes on the underside to mount a microphone holder.

Not knowing your preamp/amplifier setup, I'll just say that the Remic 5400 LB (green) has somewhat lower gain than most of the other microphones, I've used. Here's how it pickups sound in two different

areas.

The gain and EQ on the 5400 LB aren't what we're used to with a condenser microphone like the DPA Dvote, or other condensers designed for Double Bass.
