digitech whammy, run with a wah wah pedal left on before it (to help track/tone) and a volume pedal after it.
Alright, here's the final tally.

I chose bass. Because I figured it would be better suited given the instrument I'm playing. Would there be a difference in tone if I used the reguler muff?
Alright, bass muff just adds a switch to bass boost, which I'm not really gonna need, so I'm going with the original.

Most modulation effects aren't really usable live unless you Bi-Amp and like to use PANNING. he he he
AFter a long time with almost a similar goal - but with some different tones in mind, I settled on fuzz, phaser, trem and A WAH!!!!
Wah is the BEST way to stand out when you put it after every other effect. Delay is one of those effects you have to be careful of with a bass, it's very easy to mud it up and lose punters.
Those are both excellent units. I have both on my board.
In terms of what you want for this kind of situation, I would start with a good, solid base tone that you can build off of. I love my Tech21 Bass VT, and I think that would work really well in the situation you're describing. Start with a mild overdrive with plenty of highs and mids. Too much low end will just make you sound muddy, so I would be careful not to overdo the bass boost. From there, you can build with more drives, delay, modulation, pitch shifting, etc.

You didn't mention tone much, since this is the effects forum after all, but OM couldn't do what they do without their amps. GREEN AMPS, and giant GREEN CABS. You probably can't afford them but in general a warm tubey sounding amp is a must.
Splitting to two rigs might be cool - one clean and one effected.
As you were: disto and fuzz, Delay. If you do have a tube amp, sometimes all you need for the best distortion in the world is a clean/dirty boost pedal.
Do yerself a favor, and czech out the new EHX freeze retainer demo. This is the hold circuit from the venerable EHX HOG.
THis would allow you to strike a chord and hold the drone while playing a lead over the top. I don't know if it sounds synthetic or organic - the snapshot of sound is very small so there's no decay, which makes it possble to hold forever without any audible "seams"....
I'm definitely gonna try one.
I have a looper and though I can effectively loop something I practice, I find it hard to to it right in a live sitchy, especially when all I want is a "HOLD" button.

Yes, that too, chappie! OP, remember the amps. They're essential, especially if you're into Doom Metal like Om (that's why that Boris record is called "Amplifier Worship").

Alright, so I just dug out my ME-50B from the bowels of hell to check out what I wanted. Right now I've got T. Wah edge, muff fuzz, and chorus+reverb on along with the built in wah. It sounds just like I need. Kinda a Sunn O))) vibe to it...
I play in a similar situation, and honestly, the easiest (and cheapest) solution to the luck of fullness is to add complexity. Get really in sync with the drummer, and fill off each other.
Of course, you need some effects... I use a swell (not as in good, as the actual type) delay, octaver, fuzz, comp, and chorus - they work great.
Duos are a lot of fun, there's so much room to work with, that said, you need to work with it.

IMO, the M13 has some killer wahs and I love its analogue chorus. It's modelled after the famous Roland chorus used by Sting, etc. I got a like new M13 for $340 and an expression pedal for $40.
i would of thought the m13 would have a good chorus effect at the very least?

If I had to only pick one, it would be the EHX Clone Theory chorus... mode two with rate and depth at about 10-11 o'clock and your bass tone will be candy-coated addictive goodness!
A decent mild tube (or tube-ish) overdrive is also good for having a bass tone that can stand strongly on its own. My VT Bass pedal is an always-on thing for me.
