If you asked any engineer, he would tell you that the Eggpin introduces stress on the socket and block for which they were not designed. I understand your points, but based on your comments, you are speaking from a theoretical point of view, not from experience.
1. As far as carrying it around to gigs,it fits comfortably in the front pouch of my bass bag, and it doesn't weigh much more than my bow - I wouldn't leave that at home either.
2. About Stress-From a physics point of view you are correct, the stress point is displaced with the eggpin.. However, since I don't put my full weight on the bass when I play or use it as a leaning post, this is a non-issue.
3. In 10 years of use,I also have never heard of a block cracking because of the displaced stress of the Eggpin.
