EHX Bass Mono Synth

This does look good! Really looking forward to checking this out and if it has tight tracking, I could very much see this getting onto a mini board to complement the Future Impact sitting on my main board.

I've not generally been a big fan of EHX as I've often found some of their modulation pedals (e.g. EHX Pitchfork) to sound a little 'tinny' and, dare I say, synthetic(!) rather than natural, but that's obviously less of an issue in a synth pedal. I found the EHX Bass-Microsynth to be just a little "bland" as well as being pricey.

However, I sense this new offering from EHX has the potential to replace the likes of the Markbass SS (which I previously had) and which came out in 2011 and is starting to feel a little long in the tooth.

I was checking out the EHX Synth9 a few times and really liked it!

I am a huge EHX fan and always wished for a new synth for bass. This new mono synth seems to be very nice. Even though I don't have a band-context to use it for, I love to noodle around with sounds...and synth just have it for me ;) ...I love this 80s feeling!!!

Hope to get it here in Germany soon.

Cheers

I have an unhealthy obsession with synth pedals.

Haha, and I thought I was the only one... :D

The demo sounds pretty good. Sure, the tweaking possibilities are very limited, but for that price point it‘s hard to beat and you could always combine it with other effects to spice it up a little.

As others have already said, I think it really depends on the tracking if this is gonna be good or not. I tried the Synth9 and didn‘t like the artifacts in the sound (which I think are caused by it beeing digital and polyphonic), but the tracking was spot on. If this will be comparable tracking wise and sound better (because its monophonic), I can probably not resist it...

Zoundhouse in Dresden has them on eBay for 109 Euros...

I'm guessing at the price point this is coming in at, it will be repackaging of existing EHX Synth 9 digi synth hardware rather than anything new?
All the 9 line have used the same layout. And underlying tracking algorithm too probably. And all have been $225. This adds features - 11 instead of 9, plus an additional switch/presets. But it's $100 cheaper.

So I don't know what your question or point is.

Dammit! Just when I though I was through giving EHX all my money! I’ve been using a Digitech Dirty Robot, which is very cool, but TOO tweakable, and no presets. Granted, the EHX isn’t out yet, but any thoughts on the differences/similarities between the two? What about the Meris Enzo? Maybe this pedal will launch a bunch of Gap Band tributes. I’m surprised the demo guy didn’t launch into “Flashlight”.

Street price: $123.50

You're joking?!
You better make a lot of them because with that feature set at that price I'd think they will sell very well.

I have just become aware of this pedal. It seems very usable on its own but I imagine it will really shine in conjunction with other pedals. The video only barely scratched the surface in that regard.

"Calling Bill Rupert, Bill Rupert please report to the studio."

My point was simply to confirm that when we are buying this pedal we shouldn't be expecting anything 'new' or 'better' than EHX has served up before i.e. the core engine and sounds are a rehash of old tech. But that's fine - it's just managing expectations of what we will be getting.

And I take your point about the two additional sounds and the ability to preset. For me the ability to store a preset for each synth voice is going to massively useful for live performance. Combine that with the $100 discount compared to its forbears and this suddenly, for me, becomes a product that's very desirable.

It looks very similar to the 9s. I'd assume the core is the same, but tweaked to track better on bass at the cost of being monophonic.

Seems like the second coming of the BSW. Figure this will be a love/hate affair.

I wonder if the price point is about taking over that new void in lower priced competition or a related component oversupply (re recent lawsuits). Musing that maybe mono could be cheaper to implement than poly (if the -9s are truly poly). Any which way, I'll take it as extra love for bass players.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. All this Mono Synth Bass talk is just fine and dandy but the real question should be does it come in a box? And if it comes in a box will it be just a plain white box or a white box with a sticker or maybe a color box with cool graphics? Come on people, get your priority's straight.
We surely don't need another box dilemma.
