I absolutely loved the soul preacher nano other then the white noise it generated. This could be the exact same pedal and if it didn't have that noise I would be sold.

Do guys find it funny that an international bassist, who is a trained studio engineer uses on live?
I really like this post. I am finding this philosophy to be increasingly more and more true. I recently started buying pedals from Built By Ryan and his stuff is literally "handmade" with old school boards and no SMD's and although sometimes his pedals are splattery and "messy," they generate so much musical energy and force that I find it inspires me so much more than the pristine (sterile) tones from so many of my other pedals. There's something truly to be said for mojo and vibe. Thanks for this post.I don't know about the Bass Preacher, haven't tried it, but the EHX Black Finger really brings your bass alive and enhance what you are doing on your bass.
Anyway, here's a little bass preaching for you:
I am neither an international bassist or a trained studio engineer, but for all it's worth I love my Black Finger too.
It's the one pedal I'd least of all would be without.
Now I haven't tried out a lot of compressors admittedly, still I have a hard time imagining anything that would do the job better than this, and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a compressor be it for bass or guitar.
That is if you are not going for a super noise free sterile sound, which is not what rock or music as a whole is about anyway, in my opinion.
How I see music, it's the finest, most immediate and complex form of communication humans got, the one vehicle that can truly carry the message of life and creation in all it's strange and divine forms.
And life should not be about walking around in safety suits in a sterile lab, being afraid of feeling anything or making mistakes (which is what really evolves you as a person and making you wiser), in case you might offend someone who hasn't got the point yet.
It's about getting out there and sometimes getting dirt under your nails, wallow in the mud, feel it on your skin and letting the rain soak and cleanse you.
That is what the Black Finger is, alive!
On that note here's a short sweet little Taoistic tale by the Taoist philosopher Chuang Tzu:
"The king's men caught a sacred turtle. They killed it and put its shell in a special box to use to tell the future. Now would that turtle rather be honored in that box and dead, or would he rather be alive dragging his tail through the mud?"
I really wanted to have one so I bought one...but after two months is out of my board. I think it is really cool and it sounds great. But it's really noisy.
Oh wow. How'd you have it set?
The sustain was at 10, the level was at 12 or a little bit higher and the Attack was in Med. But even bypassed you could hear some noise. I was a little bit dissapointed because I think it sounds great and it is very simple to use. I'm not selling it because I like it, but for now I prefer my TC Hypergravity
The Bass Preacher is true bypass, so it's odd that there would be any noise when bypassed. What were you using to power everything in this setup?
I know it was weird. I used a regular an independent adapter (only for it). I cannot say it was one of the cables, but I used the same cables and I never had that noise. Even with my other compressor. I might give it a chance again changing some settings, but I'm not expecting any change
So you were running bass -> bass preacher -> amp with no other pedals, and the bass preacher gave you noise while in bypass? That's really bizarre.
Maybe get the unit checked out?
