EMG Club!

Hi guys!! I'm newbie in the club and this website.I'm so sorry i don't good in English, I'll try to understand it and make it better.
So,I want to change my pick up and pre. but i don't know what EMG pick up & pre. is great and give me a sound do i want.I just like Cliff Burton(Metallica)tone that sound is great in many music like Jump in the fire bass is not so harsh, i want a sound like that.
So what EMG pick up & pre. i should install in my bass to give me that sound. Can you help me to select EMG pick up & pre. or give your opinion.

Thanks !! :help::D

Well, pickups are a small part of the puzzle to obtain "Metallica tone".

First, what kind of bass do you have? If your bass already has pickups installed, you probably want ones that are the same physical shape.

The EMG BQC is a great preamp, but the BTC will work also.

EMG Hz pups in my Spector Q5.

Some folks don't like the Hz pups, but I think they are very versatile.

Yes,but just 40DC pair? or combine with another pick up?Because i saw someone in first page tell 40DC are so harsh. If i install 40DC (bridge) & 40P5 (neck) to my bass with BTC system what do you think about it?

**Can BTC system set it up to 18volts?

What I've found (to my ear) is that a 40DC in the bridge position on my BBN5 sounds like an EMG LJ but with twice the volume and a tad more fatness. The 40CS that I started with in that position, and since sold, seemed better there with the 40P5. I plan on putting a 40TW there to get closer to the "best of both worlds"

Just about all EMG stuff can be run at 18v, and I highly recommend it.

I've also experimented with many preamps (all EMG had to offer, and most of the available ones that work with active pickups below $300) and decided the best sounding (to me) for all-round use was the Aguilar OBP-3. If you're targeting a really mid-scooped sound and want to get closer to that before dealing with your amp, the BQS is your best shot.

Personally I prefer the 35dc (I assume the 35dc and 40dc sound the same) in the middle or neck. While in the bridge position its get real clanky attack when you play over the pickup. Thats why I Swtiched it out for a 35cs. Same output as the 35dc, just a a tad "warmer". To my ears it just doesn't clank at much which suit my style best. It basically use it to add the attack to my sound when combined with my Emg 35p(neck) and Emg J(in between). IMO, The DC's Are great for funk and "nu school" metal. Deep lows, extended highs, and some decent mids. It's the complete opposite from the emg j's.
