EMG Club!

My P with EMG PJ and BQC system.

It is very difficult (at least for me) to find basses with active EMGs. I got this one recently. It sounds great and plays very well too. The orange finish isn't my thing but the EMGs make it sing.

Even had schaller tuning keys, bridge and straplocks!

I built this bass in 1979.Same pic as always, not real clear but These allegedly are the first EMG/Overlend Pbass P/u's shipped to the east coast. A friend of mine worked for them early on. As far as worn? I'll sned close ups,the EMg logo whichused to cover the face of each one is ripped off the trebleside.

Hey guys...I'm thinking about buying EMG pickups for my Fender Highway One Jazz. Are they hard to install? Is there any soldering involved???

For The jazz stlye EMG's, It is not very difficult at all. The pots for wiring it up are included (can't use the 250k pots on the bass).
Do you have a little soldering skills? Also, depending on what config you're doing, may take a little thought (2 vol and 1 tone? 1 vol, blend and tone?). Good thing about them is: one cable. outer jacket is ground, inner is the coil.

Oh ok yea I have some soldering experience. I would just wire it in a vol/vol/tone configuration. Does it come pre wired like that already or would I have to do it?

Not exactly "per-wired" like that per-say, but each pickup you buy has a pre-wired volume and tone pot. You'll also get an intuitive wiring diagram, with different configurations. Also, you may want to check if there's a size difference with either of the pickups.
IIRC, some Jazz basses have 2 different width pickups, it this is the case, routing may be necessary for a fit. Calling on Jazz bass experts, Does the width of the neck and bridge match, or not?

The bridge pickup is wider than the neck pickup. The EMG Jazz sets come that way as well. At least they did when I bought mine. As I recall they are labeled SJ and LJ for long and short. The hole spacing for the screws is different as well between the 2. I called EMG when I bought my P and J pickups, both for highway 1's and they wouldn't commit to telling they would for sure fit. The good news they all did in fact fit near perfectly I had to remove a little( and I do mean a little ) finish to get them in the routing in the P and the bridge jazz had to have a little removed from where the screw mounting hole protruded from the pickup. I just took a razor xacto knife and carefully scraped it away. In all honesty it wa so close I probably could have forced it in but felt more comfortable making a bit more room.

oh ok yea that doesn't seem hard at all. Yea both of my pickup holes are different, the bridge being larger so I should have no problem...
