EMG Club!

Hi EMG club,
Anyone ever try this with their emg pickups, the vlpf (lo pass filter) preamp? Like a wal or alembic preamp lo pass filter sweep?

EMG pickups have a typical LCR peaking response similar to most passive pickups so an Alembic adjustable Q LPF is very limited in it's effectiveness.

It works the same as a tone control.

thank you @Snert , much appreciated! I am trying to get a little more punch and bite from a dull bass with emg ja-x pickups perhaps a bass treble, control.

Nope. The VLPF is variable attenuation of a fixed frequency. The Wal/Alembic filter preamp is a fixed (or sometimes variable, with a switch or with another pot) attenuation of a variable frequency.

My Modulus has DC/CS combination. I need more clarity and power, so I tried to order DCX. But I found DCX needs about 3 months to get. Is DCX worthy to wait for that time? or can it be replaced with DC/DC combination?

Love me some EMGs. My Spector NS-2 has old p/js and my NS5CR has two 40Js.

Anyone use 2 40PX-5s in the usual P/J placement?

I just ordered a pair for a build. Going simple with the wiring, going to go with a single Volume and a single VLPF tone. I also bought their 3 way Tele switch. Not a blend knob guy lol.

also considering one of those fishman rechargeable battery packs.

this is for a personal build so it will be some time before I can try them out so I’m curious if anyones tried that setup.

I just put a Fishman Universal 9 volt supply in my Bass. It works perfectly. My Delano Sonar 2 preamp in this Bass has a voltage doubler to 18v internal to the preamp. Exactly what I needed. No battery changes ever and constant power.

I just installed a J-x set with the BTC control.
I’m curious if I should have tried the included active tone control with the X set before going straight to installing the BTC
Am I missing anything?
You could wire:

ABCX (Blend) - VLPF (Tone) - BTC - MV - Output Jack

The layout on the Bass doesn't have to look like that. But, internally, that's the signal path.

I would say no. The BTC is really cool. Way better than just the X/VLPF tone control.
When using active EMGs, you might as well jump in and use the active EQ.
I have a BTS with regular, old school J5s on my Squier CV 70s J V Bass. I set the treble control of my BTS to the widest setting (1 off, 2 on with the DIP switches) and tend to just run the EQs at the center detent. However, with that setting, the treble control rolls off much like a 'typical' EMG tone control (which is also very similar to the VLPF), but can really boost some presence, if needed.
Plus, you get the benefit of the bass control. Using the bridge pickup with some bass boost has a cool effect: the tonality has focused mids, but still big and fat enough to support the band or mix. Or go the other way, cut some bass on the fly if you find yourself in a situation where things got boomy.

Yes thanks
I forgot all about the dip switches
I just installed everything then buttoned it up
I think I’ll go back in and play with the voicing

Jelly! Did you get that neck epoxied ?

Yes neck was purchased used from talkbass , a hg thorr neck. Sounds pretty unique compared to other epoxy basses ( a little more attack ) I have and looks great too. In regards to your next post I like the volume blend tone a lot. Lots of great sounds in that configuration!
