EMG Club!

is there an EMG rep on TB? I called yesterday after placing an order, but I think the associate was a bit confused. i ordered some pickups for my spector and was hoping to make an exchange of the 2 VLPF active tone controls for an Active blend control.

The TWX is my favorite pickup of all time. Having owned (and still own) combinations of DC, J, JX, PAX(r), and TWX. My current regular gigs have a 3 bass rotation of dual TWX, PAX(r)/TWX, and dual JX.

Here's a quick bass dominant tune I did a few years ago with dual TWX. Different song sections use different pup configurations. Dual singles, HB neck/single bridge, and solo bridge HB.

Had my very first quick connect mishap in over 10 years of using them tonight. Last set the Geezer P quit working just as we started our last set. I panicked, then got the bright idea of using the J pickup, turning the bass knob up all the way and the treble knob off. Worked well enough. Came home and opened it up and found the wire came off the pot.

I have flown countless times with this bass since I got it in 2016 (Hammersmith PJ), and several others with the quick connections as well, and that was the only time it happened. I think I didn’t connect it all the way when I painted the pickguard champagne sparkle a month ago. But all is well now. I hope!

I know there are few reports of quick connect mishaps, but the engineer in me doesn't like them on a primal level. Hasn't stopped me buying and owning a whole bunch of their pickups over the years and potentially ordering a set to upgrade one of my current basses, and another for a SSH guitar.

Happy to see you got to finish the set OK.

Me too! And I’m still not the least bit soured on them. After all, it was probably my fault for getting in a bit of a hurry.

The only times I've had problems with the quick-connects was for the reason, I didn't get the connectors/wiring seated or installed properly. :bag:

This is also a story that supports active EQ. You had an emergency blowout, but the bass boost got you back home.
